Keep an eye on Fitness Depot. They have had some great sales in the past.
They pretty much only carry gym quality machines. A good deal would be a Precor or something like that for around $1200. It would last you for life probably.

Any comments on Canadian Tire? I know they don't usually carry the highest quality stuff, but they do have a lot of sales on their (overpriced) sports equipment, and people don't bash it a lot (at least not those in higher price bracket).

You could find a "$2000" machine for just $700 with relative ease.
A few examples of sales this week:

http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/horiz ... 0562p.html
http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/lives ... 0510p.html

I bought both a treadmill and elliptical trainer there with similar discounts, and both stood the test of time.

I've heard you can use the ground as a treadmill. That's pretty free.

Yes it is. And often they throw in free rain, sleet, snow, -30 temperatures, dogs to chase you, cars to run you down and other assorted goodies that no one can refuse. But free is always better, no?

I'd never buy a treadmill but a Concept 2 Rower would be nice.

No I cannot, not in Edmonton anyways and that's just by looking through my window right now.

I lived in Edmonton for years, they plow the running trails. The problem is when it hits -30 or below.

I hate running even when it's perfect weather, much less at -30 or below.

I lived in Edmonton for years too. In my experience, you're lucky if they plow the ROADS, let alone the trails.

As an owner of a Livestrong treadmill from Canadian Tire, I can tell you that I am quite happy with this brand. I picked up the 13.0 which has a bigger deck and stronger motor. Have been using it for last year and a half and never had any problems with it.

I've had good experiences with things purchased from treadmillfactory.ca, last year they had some really good boxing day sales, so i imagine they will do something for BF
