Yeah how is this a hot deal if we all know there are cheaper/free alternatives?

That's like back in the day saying "HOT! Income tax return booklets only $5 at Chapters" when they're free at the post office.

I'd say Wealthsimple Tax has an equal or better user experience as well.

Any time there is a thread about paid tax software people always have to say "But there are free options." And yes that is true. But I have used Turbotax for years and so it auto imports any relevant information from last year (like carry over donations). Being self employed I was also able to claim the cost of the tax software as an expense. So while there are alternatives I still appreciate when people post deals on the paid software. If it doesn;t apply to you then maybe point out alternatives (in case people don't know) and move on. But thanks Op for posting.

Wealthsimple imports previous years for me, and it has been simple and convenient. I'm not self-employed though.

Oh I'm not saying that other tax preparation companies won't import the previous years information... But if I were to switch to another company I would lose all that. So part of the reason I stay is that it's easier.

What are the cheaper alternatives for self-employed businesses?

Does Wealthsimple tax work if I have a business number / business CRA account?

Wealthsimple does have the T2125 yes. Has worked fine for me when I've needed it. It won't do CCA calculations for you. Product page for this TurboTax offer doesn't say anything about CCA either so I assume they're equivalent.

It's possible TurboTax has a better wizard for this purpose or specific to ride-sharing (their marketing sure makes it sound like they do but...).

EDIT: here are their step-by-step instructions for how to fill in the T2125 if you're a rideshare driver. So I'm guessing maybe no wizard. Even if so, you can use these same steps for Wealthsimple Tax too and save your $27: https://turbotax.intuit.ca/tips/guide-u ... tners-7522

Definitely there's a switching cost but for me at least I'm not going to pay $25-50/yr. for the next three decades to avoid it forever.

CRA autofill also takes care of a lot of the past year info now so it's easier than it used to be to switch. Not sure if carry-over donations would be part of that but pretty much any carry-forward you can see on your CRA profile is.

Make a free account, see what it imports, in 5-10 minutes you'll know how easy it will be to avoid TurboTax next year for you. ;)

Oh I got Turbo Tax Self Employed for free... Guessing because I went back to school in 2021. That or there was a glitch when I clicked on the air miles promo. Either way it was free. I just wanted to thank the Op because there are still people that use Turbo Tax, are okay with paying for it, and want to know about the discount. And used my own experiences (carries over information and is a tax write-off any ways).

Honestly? I like TurboTax and am willing to pay for it. But if you don't, as long as the tax software you're using works and supports all the forms you need for your return there isn't much reason to use TurboTax over anything else other than liking the UI or having pervious years information in Turbotax.

Why when I add 24000 dollars to medical expenses in TurboTax it jumps from -100$ payback to 7500$ refund ? I have no ideea but it seems a lot for a refund.

Try Genutax. It’s free desktop version and seems pretty good. Showing me exactly same refund as Turbotax. I used Turbotax free for last few years and was pretty happy with it, but this year when I am trying to claim First Time Home buyer credit, it wants me to upgrade to Deluxe by paying $40 + tax for two returns. So switched to Genutax.

When I start apps online following the link, it gives option to choose but it does NOT transfer earlier data for existing users :( You have to enter all personal info, interview, etc. Am I doing something wrong?

EDIT: it worked. It did not pick up the saved profile once, then login was OK but did not fill out the personal info of existing profile although past returns were listed, few trials/logouts, etc, and finally it worked.

Turbo Tax Self Employed for free last year for me too. I think it was a glitch or a temporary promotion. This year it's asking for $44.99. I might switch to Wealthsimple.

My understanding is
Expense has to exceed 3% of ur income to be eligible to get money back.

$100 is too low -> no refund.

$24000 is more than 3% of ur income -> refund
