For those who have been using TurboTax, note that UFile 2018 can no longer import TurboTax 2017 info even though their website FAQ and packaging listed it as a feature

Is it actually better than the free simpletax.ca?
As someone who recent switched to simpletax.ca there's no reason to use ufile that I can see.

Same. I tried simple tax for the first time this year after using ufile for many years and wow, ufile is so behind despite not being free. I can’t see ufile being relevant in 5 years’ time given the ufile program has basically not changed at all for almost a decade. They’re like yahoo search and simple tax is like google.

their online version (ie non-installed) is charging on a per person basis which I think it is crazy.

"Online" is the key word. No way I'll put all that info online, even for free...

StudioTax is free as well same or better than uFile and all is done on your own comp.

Way to go.

I found that ufile has better redistribution of charitable and medical receipts and other deductions than the free programs if you are doing a family return.

Definitely- only use the online version if it's free for you ( ie. you make less than 20,000 dollars ). I buy the 12 return version because I do returns for whole family.

No better than the free versions of TurboTax or H&R block.

StudioTax is by far the best of the free ones.

Tried Studio Tax years ago but could not figure out some things so I switched. Too bad though none of the paid software has a single unit version. But in the case of something having to go through an accountant, like what happened to me this year, the Studio Tax files could not be used. The Ufile returns I did though were acceptable immediately. Sure saved me having done Ufile the last 5 years...
