Undecided Toro or Honda Lawnmower

I have narrowed it down to 2 models, and I'm having a hard time of picking the one that would be better buy.

Price is pretty much identical, only thing I see diference in, is Polymer deck on Honda, and Aluminum deck on Toro, self propelled steering style, and engine.

When I used to have a push mower I found the Toro 'Personal Pace' system to be worth it's weight in gold.

The Wirecutter lists the Honda HRX2176HYC as it's preferred gas mower, so I'd pick it unless you also find the Personal Pace system the deal-braker. How much lawn do you have - if you read the article the Egos are highly recommended.

Thanks, was looking at Ego, but I will be mostly mulching, and it's not the selling point of an Ego.
Never tried Toro's Personal Pace, just unfamiliar how easy it is to engage compared to normal set and go on Honda, hence undecided.

You basically just hold the handlebar and start walking; the mower automatically keeps pace. Speed up and it speeds up, slow down and it slows down, stop walking and the mower stops. It's really something neat to use.

My folks have a Toro with the aluminum deck. It's an old super recycler. It has to be close to 20 years old now. As @von Monster mentioned, its all tied to pressure on the handle. Basically its trying to hit a balance point of pressure which means you and the mower are both keeping pace with each other.

I'm not familiar with the Honda self propelled mowers, but their small engines are solid. Have you considered the 21382?

Honda has a bigger motor (although the twin blade does need more power to spin than a single) and Honda has a better self drive system (hydrostatic vs rubber belt)

Toro (163 cc Briggs) vs Honda (202 cc)

Honda, If cost isn't an issue

I'd go with Aluminum because I don't trust that the polymer will not break over time. My LawnBoy steel or aluminum lawnmower is almost 20 yrs old..self propel.

Failure is always an option...just not the preferred one!

I'm a fan of the toro's but don't like the personal pace. I'd rather the typical lever on a rwd mower as it's faster and less effort to turn/spin it.

Hydrostatic drive and a composite deck seem like potential weak spots on a residential grade mower that go against the Honda imo.
