I assume that food banks prefer the "regular" styles, eg spaghetti & macaroni. Anybody know for sure?

Whenever I go to No Frills for their loss leader sales, I almost always walk away disappointed because OOS.

Try price matching at other stores that sell Unico pasta.

I don't have an exact length but I know pasta lasts a long time. I usually buy a lot of pasta when it goes on sale and use over the next 3-4 months and don't have an issue.

Online people may say around two years but pasta is a non perishable and will surely last for over five.

This is a GREAT opportunity to donate to the foodbanks. We all make impulse purchases for things we don't need, I URGE you to please buy just $2 worth of pasta. It can help put food on the table. Donations can be dropped off at most drop-boxes by the cashiers or firestations. We always get the randomest things to the front page. For the sake of helping the unfortunate, I humbly request you to up-vote this thread just so it can be as visible as possible.

People can call me karma/up-vote hogg or whatever, I don't care. I just want to try and help the unfortunate as much as I can.

While the sentiment is above is with the best intentions, the best anyone can do for food banks is to donate money. When you donate food, they need to transport to a central area, sort and then re-distribute. Think of all the required extra manpower, labour and costs required (yes, understanding most are volunteers). With money donated, it is more efficient for the food banks to purchase items required based on needs. Just some food for thought (pun intended).

This, plus many larger food bank programs have buying power through companies at wholesale rates so they can get more food that way. Although this is not to go against the sentiment of the OP.

As a kid I can still recall going to the food bank with my mother after my parents divorced. I can recall us going through the box putting the items away and then her breaking down in tears. I looked in the box and at the bottom was a couple items with my fraternal grandfather's company logo on it. He was a multi-millionaire running a food importing company (can still find their products in GTA stores), but when my mom took us to visit and begging for some food he shrugged his shoulders at her.

I always try and donate some money to local food banks if I can spare it. I've never gone to one as an adult even though I have been urged many times due to at times not being able to afford food. It is tough when you are on a low/fixed income. I remember when PC Points were still new and there was that crazy deal of canned veggies being $1 and then you got $1 worth of points so I went borrowed some money to stockpile 200 cans and I donated half and then here and there I donated a few more when I saw I wasn't using as many myself.

I digress...sorry, got chatty on a subject that is near and dear to me.

You should still be thoughtful of all of the other customers that go all the way No Frills that week because of the cheap pasta only to find out the main reason they went is OOS because somebody bought 200 of them.

I'm glad to see more normalcy: cheap pasta, sub $2/lb chicken/pork, TP on flyers... I ran out of pasta, the shelves were bare a couple of months ago, when I found them at $1.27 each, I bought a few although at the price I wouldn't have bought during normal times.

Donating non perishable food is always good, but donating cash is even better as some posters previously said. They have much more buying power than us individuals, it costs much less to transport, sort, and store, we can ask for tax receipts.

And please, don't hoard $200 worth. I hope No Frills put the limit on sales price on first 5 or whatever reasonable amount.

When I buy bags of pasta, the BB date is usually 2 years away, but make sure to store them in dry cool place. Those bags are fragile (I don't know why they don't spend a little more on tougher bags and pass the cost to us), bugs can go in.
