This is huge! The only thing is it sounds like FIFA will decide which cities will get to host so 1 of TO or Montreal may be excluded.

Hello Everybody, this morning was great news, they announced on the Radio that The Fifa World Cup for 2026 (Two Thousand and Twenty Six) will be coming to North America with 10 games being played in Canada. Toronto will be one of the cities, montreal and Edmonton are the others. Toronto needs to retrofit their BMO Fld to add 10G net new seats to qualify it for fifa standards.

By the way, I heard this news on the radio so that is why I did not post a link cus you can not link to a radio station. I'm sure the news has spread and you can find it if you searched the net or actually turned on the TV /Radio and watch/listen to the news

Can you imagine if Italy were to qualify for the 2026 World Cup? All of Woodbridge will head down town to watch them play. The Home Depot, Rona and Lowes will be all empty that day, except for the parking lots, cus they will all park their cars there, then hop on the Vaughan TTC subway line towards Downtown, lol

It looks like Montreal, Toronto and Edmonton get games.

We better start handing out citizenship to soccer players lol.

This is awesome news. I think hosting it in Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver would be great.

No. That is to be settled as of yet, since there are three host countries.

I hope to see Canada and Russia in the same group :) Both superior in hockey, but suck on football :)

So from what I read...

48 teams:
AFC (Asia) – 8
Caf (Africa) – 9
Concacaf (North and Central America) – 6 (Canada, USA, and Mexico auto-qualify)
Conmebol (South America) – 6
OFC (Oceania) – 1
Uefa (Europe) – 16
Final 2 spots are determined by a mini-tourney.

16 divisions of 3 teams each. Every team plays only 2 games and the top 2 advance.
32 remaining teams go into single elimination. The team that wins 5 straight wins the World Cup.

Total games: 80

So each city gets 3 exhibition games? Why does the US get so many and travel must suck for the players.

Wow! I didn't know the announcement was today. I was just thinking about this yesterday. Although it looks like only 3 cities in Canada will be hosting. I wonder if more than one games will be slotted for these 3 cities.

they said Toronto will get 10 games, now that could mean 10 crappy games, or 10 good games, no one knows at this time, they probably have years of paper work to work out the details and also results of matches played also determine the outcome of which teams play too, don't forget that

Vancouver opted out, so they won't get games.

Edmonton will as well as Toronto and Montreal.
