US DEAL * Chamberlain MyQ Smart WiFi Hub Garage Door Opener w/ Smartphone Control US$40

Price:
US$40
Savings:
50%
Model: MYQ-G0301
Works with your wifi so you can check the door status and open/close it from anywhere with your phone (wifi or data required).

Best Buy
Walmart
Amazon.com

I have the previous generation and am happy with it. It does NOT play nicely with SmartThings or other smarthome devices (ok maybe with additional sensors and software, see posts below). Apparently this can change with a subscription but that wasn't for me.

FYI CDN$100 in Best Buy Canada.

UPDATE: C$63 ON AMAZON.CA

It plays nicely with SmartThings with a little effort. You'll need to add a door sensor that can detect tilt. A good simple one would be SmartThings' multipurpose sensor, configured for a garage door. Then add in a free 3rd party device handler called MyQ Lite and you'll be able to integrate the garage door into SmartThings no problem.

This is the older model that is NOT homekit compatible, correct?

You need this hub AND a separate myQ Homebridge device if you want to add Homekit capability (official support).

https://www.myq.com/apple-homekit

Or, if you have a Homebridge server running at home, you can add Homekit functionality using a Homebridge plugin (unofficial):

Boycotting Chamberlain until they decide to stop trying to corner the smart home market on their own.

I was gonna buy one of these a few weeks ago until I found out that they want you to pay and subscribe to add google assistant support... Imagine having to pay philips to turn on your hue lights... I hate their business model, but I won't downvote, even though chamberlain is deserving of it, but the op isn't. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you. I was looking at a DIY solution simply by installing a wifi inching relay. I'm already heavily invested in the smartthings ecosystem and have the multipurpose sensor ready to install. I will definitely have a closer look at your recommendation.

I'm taking a look at your recommendation, but it appears it may not work with my Google WiFi mesh system... I wonder if the inching relays on amazon have the same limitations... Here is the statement on the listing that concerns me...

"Doesn't support Mesh wifi system and 5G WiFi network!!!!"

This is the newer Homekit compatible one

I highly recommend avoiding them. Chamberlain is a great GDO company but they are a crap Smarthomr product company. They do not understand what integration means, has no idea how to run a data center and doesn't know what Security means.

What do you think security means?
1.
the state of being free from danger or threat.
"the system is designed to provide maximum security against toxic spills"
synonyms: certainty, safe future, assured future, safety, reliability, dependability, solidness, soundness
"employees have an interest in the security of their jobs"
2.
a thing deposited or pledged as a guarantee of the fulfillment of an undertaking or the repayment of a loan, to be forfeited in case of default.
synonyms: guarantee, collateral, surety, pledge, bond; More

This is my current DIY setup, didn't get the chance to integrate it with Google assistant

I just set up the HomeKit version yesterday. Seems to work well. But the one I bought only runs through Siri, not GH or Alexa etc. Seemed to work quite nicely so far though.
