USB-C data/power breakout/passthrough cable?

There are a lot of USB hubs that plug into a USB-C port, breaking out to USB-A female connectors and include a USB-C input for power passthrough so you can charge your device while using USB-A-attached peripherals. However has anyone seen this for USB-C-attached peripherals? Even better if it was just a small Y-cable rather than a full dongle.

My laptop has one USB-C port and I recently got a 2.5" drive enclosure that uses USB-C. I was hoping to use this directly with the USB-C port on my laptop, but then there is no way to charge the computer while the external drive is plugged in. Instead i have to use a USB-C to USB-A single with power passthrough and plug the drive into the single using a USB-C to USB-A cable. I'd like to just use a single USB-C cable instead.

Seems like something people would need given how many ultrabooks are coming out with USB-C charging?

you mean like this
https://www.banggood.com/5-in-1-Type-C- ... rehouse=CN

saw the same thing at amazon that said it did charging too but many said the single connector just isn't very sturdy for 24/7 usage.

seems like each one of these style need to be individually questioned for ability to charge and use tho. sure looks like they can be expensive. So silly to offer just one port.

perhaps specify the laptop you have my help to narrow down which can and won't

Thanks for the link! That one looks like it only provides 2x USB-A ports but no USB-C ones though.

I have one of these, which works with my laptop (Toshiba X20W): https://www.primecables.ca/p-354262-cab ... rimecables

It has a USB-C charging pass-through but data connection only through USB-A.

I was looking to see if there was such a thing as a USB-C hub or cable that has USB-C charging pass-through, but provided a USB-C data port instead of USB-A data ports. I'm more or less looking for something like this: https://www.primecables.ca/p-356899-cab ... rimecables but with data-capable USB-C ports instead of USB-A.

Having searched around though, I'm wondering if it doesn't exist at all. Perhaps it's a technical in-feasibility within the USB-C standard? So far, every time I've found a USB-C hub that has a downstream USB-C data port, it does not have charging pass-through, and any time it has charging pass-through, it has no downstream USB-C data port.

For example, the following have a USB-C port for data, but not with a second one for charging pass-through:
https://www.startech.com/Cards-Adapters ... B30A3A1CFB
http://www.belkin.com/us/p/P-F4U090/

I can see that in most cases, it's probably not necessary to have a USB-C port for data, and most people are looking to get back their USB-A ports instead. However it seems like some of the higher-speed USB drives these days are coming out with USB-C connections instead; if USB-C is really to become the one port for everything, then it's kind of tricky with devices with only one USB-C port and no ability to charge while using it with USB-C devices! (Unless it's possible to have the type of break-out data/charging pass through adapter I was hoping existed).

Ah, this is the closest thing functionality-wise that I was looking for: https://www.startech.com/ca/Cards-Adapt ... TB3DK2DPPD

It has a USB-C port for data. (And also a second Thunderbolt 3 port) and will power the laptop.

But, the price! $415 CAD! Also, not as portable and requires a different AC adapter than the USB-C one that came with my laptop.
