Used PickUp Suggestions

Selling my 2011 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon (still debating on selling privately or trading in) and looking to buy a used pickup in the 20K range.. Any suggestions? Would walk into dealerships but honestly hate the game. Plan is to buy something to tie me over till 2023 and hoping to get into a tesla cyber truck.

Nooooo!!!!

Anyways...sell it privately as it will fetch more than what any dealer will offer you.
On the low end the ask is 16k for a 2011 Rubi on Trader.ca in these parts.

I would only be looking at the GMC / Chev twins for $20k or less.

Could probably get a brand new Ford Maverick for low $20s?

Ha. Ya the Jeep was a fun truck but work is shifting in the direction for a pick up. Not looking forward to selling privately but all signs are proving that I must suffer the Kigiggi wrath to get top dollar.

What are you looking for in particular? Payload, towing, features?

If nothing, just decide on the cab style and take a drive of a few and see which you like best.

F150: Ford did a major refresh in 2015 (new engines, Aluminum body). Get a 2.7 if you're just using it in general.
GM/Chevvy did a refresh in 2014 and 2019
Ram did one in 2009 and 2019

Hey thanks for the suggestions! Going to give a few a test drive. Not really in need of any heaving towing but don’t want any weak ass engine either. Kinda sucks that having to walk into dealerships gives me the chills…I walked into a dodge dealership a while back…to say they were persistent in attempting me to buy is an understatement. Thanks again!

This is not the market to buy a used truck in. Goodluck!

This is very true.

Without looking, I would doubt you could get a 2015 Sierra with decent options for $20k.

Ya, it’s almost as bad as trying to buy a cottage in today’s market. Anyone have experience with a decent used car lot or dealership in the GTA (or beyond) to get a fair deal?

“Used car dealership” and “fair deal” are generally mutually exclusive.

Depends on budget and what bed size you need.

Parents have been looking for a mini pickup truck for a while and I think have settled on the new Ford Maverick. If used prices being so high, getting a base or well optioned maverick is fairly comparable and new is always nice. They don't need it for construction or anything just for the occasional hauling of big items and honestly just "want" a pickup truck since they're in the middle of no where now lol.

Other good option is just buy a Toyota Tacoma new and sell it for what you paid for it in a few years.

Came in to say this. The price of used pickups has gone through the roof. I believe I could sell my 2 year old truck for more than I paid for it right now! Face With Tears Of Joy

I just sold my RAM for more than I paid for it. I owned it for a year and a half and put almost 40k on it.

Wow. Nice. I’ve been searching and must say that if I want to stick with my 20K budget I’ll have to settle for a similar year pickup 2011/12/13…perfect market would be sell high buy low but nope. My worry going into the dealerships is checking out the new inventory and being swayed into just buying something new. Own a tesla model 3 and have nothing but praise for this technology and would really like to own the Cybertruck when they are available but need a pickup now. The Ford Maverick actually looks decent but going to make the used market more of a target and try to keep my eye on the prize. Going to head out today and check out some of the suggestions.

What about leasing? You could get a nice new truck for a pretty low monthly payment, and at the end of the term, either just give it back, or buy it out if the buyout is less than the market value for that truck.

Normally it would make sense to buy used and then sell it in a couple years. Typically you'd get a lot of your money back because trucks hold their value, but you're buying into an insane market, and that might not hold up for 2-3 years. You could end up selling for a lot less than what you paid. Plus you always have to consider repairs and maintenance costs on an older vehicle. It might make sense to just lease a new one

For $20k? Likely likely looking 2012 to 2015 max if you want crew cab, 4wd and options.

Yup. This has crossed my mind. Checked out a few trucks today and wow the used market is insane. Still not giving up as you can get lucky but the new market is definitely now on my radar. Going to have to do some homework on current deals around pickup truck leases.
