Utility room wall panels

Any building codes specifically limiting using plywood in place of drywall within a utility room? All I can find in the codes is that the flame spread limit of wall materials cannot exceed 150. No specific mention of proximity to furnaces, water heaters....etc?

Reason being, I would like to put a plywood panel and workbench on a wall in our utility room about 6-8 feet from the furnace.

Each province has its own building code. You could be in some faraway part of Canada like Ontario for all we know.

The furnace will have clearances away from combustibles ... not the building code.
