A/V Equipment Behind TV - possible?

My wife found an Instagram where someone had their tv mounted on the wall.

They pulled the TV out and there was a niche with a bunch of plugs and the A/V equipment was back there.

I don’t know if this is possible.

The TV and all the equipment will generate heat and I am wondering if this would cause things to overheat?

Seemed like a cool idea, but not sure if it’s a Instagram cool idea or real life cool idea

I wouldn't worry about heat but you'd have to take into consideration the depth you need for the equipment and whether the remotes are Infrared (IR) or Radio Frequency (RF) as the TV will block IR.

I have a large foundation jog out because a main floor fireplace.

I have over 2’ depth.

I also worry about the remote working. We have a Logitech harmony on the main floor but they aren’t making them anymore. Would need to find an alternative

Have seen this in person and it works fine. If you have an amplifier, that might be an issue though. But things like AppleTV, Cable Box, etc will be fine.

For IR, you do get repeaters, that will just repeat the IR signal inside. Had one in my old apartment and it worked great - https://www.speakercraft.com/product/sm ... al-ir-kit/

I have a similar issue. I built a shelf in the top part of the "cubby hole" ... those were created by the builder over the fireplace for the old school CRT TVs (there is an electrical outlet as well as a coax outlet in the back).

Yeah ... once the TV is lower than the receiver ... you need to angle the remote to get access to the receiver and my two android boxes ... a little bit of a pain but bearable.

TV Mantle Pulldown Mount ... mounted on a thick 3/4" piece of plywood.

The only thing I would do different is instead of having only 2cm of space around the tv, make that a bit bigger for airflow maybe around 5cm on each side. This will also allow you to accommodate a bigger TV in the future when it needs to be replaced. Or keep a bigger gap at the top of the TV for airflow and tight on the other sides of the tv.

I guess the issue is getting all the remote controls to work

We are also now looking into:

Receiver + speakers

Or

Sound bar

Or Sonos system

As a tech support I heard so many times people put the cable box, apple tv etc etc behind their TV and equip always over heat. Also is hard to troubleshoot when there is an issue. Not to mention tech won't remove your TV from your wall mount if they need to get to the back due to liabilities. My suggestion if you want to do it that's fine but make sure there is a few inches of space to the sides and the top and also be prepare to move the TV out of the way by yourself if you need to troubleshoot.

Heating can be dealt with by cooling.

I use fans on top of my devices to suck out to hot air. On my router I use fans to blow cold air to the bottom of the router.

And this is my makeshift hidden shelf for my gaming consoles in the "cubby hole" :
