Sorry to break it to you, but no. That doesn’t do anything for Canadians. That’s an old pipe dream. No one that I interacted with in TCI treats Canadians any differently.
I’ve stayed at both, cheap and expensive resorts in both countries and your passport doesn’t mean a thing other than locals have a bias about which nationalities tip better.
Whether you go to Mexico or TCI, as long as you’re staying at a resort, you’re just another number to them. You show up on a tourist bus, get a wristband and then at some point you get on a bus, and leave.
