Vet recommendation for spaying senior female dog or pyometra surgery?

Hi everyone,

I have a female husky who is about 11 years old. She is not spayed which is a huge mistake. She had her heat recently and started showing symptoms that could potentially be Pyometra. We will take her to vet this week to have a full check-up done. Meanwhile, would love to see recommendations from pet owners for any GTA vet that is good at spaying senior female dog or for pyometra surgery (not confirmed yet).

Thank you very much!

OP - is the vet you will be seeing this week not capable of performing the surgery? It has been many years but we had only one female dog that we rescued who was not spayed - all of the rest were males. She came down with Pyometra before her spay and our vet performed the surgery very quickly. I do not know if a referral to a specialist is now required, but most definitely the surgery had to be done quickly.

It would be helpful if you indicated where in the GTA you are looking. I tend to separate "Toronto" from GTA since the GTA covers such a large area these days.

I would think any vet is capable of performing this procedure. It is essential a spay and I believe all vets can preform such a thing. They simply must be sure to remove the entire uterus.
