Confusingly enough, the G string looks like a T at the back with the string connecting directly to the waistband. The V string is basically victoria's secret marketing, but you can see at the back the string connects to the waistband via a small triangular (or v-shaped...) piece of fabric, that's a V string.

The V is apparently more comfortable as well. It's a welcome improvement in this kind of product.
