I've been using open source editor Kdenlive for years, for YouTube and family videos, it works well

If you want something advanced, try Davinci Resolve, the free version is full featured.

Yes, you can set up Davinci's interface to look like Premiere Pro, and you're probably going to end up using that someday if you actually stick with this.

I'll say no, Premiere Pro is just about the industry standard now. But for free, Davinci is the choice.

Filmora X will be my recommendation.

UI is quite user friendly and is good semi-advanced level software if you are new to video editing.

Would i be able to screen record and then edit & merge as required. Or do I need a separate software for screen recording. The reason I ask is the windows screen recording takes a lot of disk space and you then need to deal with merging those mp4s

My workflow (under Windows and Linux) is:

- Screen capture using OBS studio, and
- Edit using Kdenlive

Both programs are open source, and provide professional quality.
