[Virgin Mobile] QC only $54 6GB or $58.50 8GB + unlimited canada minutes + 1000 minutes intl LD

This is similar to Fido's 10% off offer. But if you prefer 1000 LD minutes over fido roam and Spotify, then this is a good option.

Note that Koodo also has the 1000 LD minutes offer for the same price. But they don't have an 8GB option and the LD minutes does NOT include United Kingdom as one of the countries, whereas Fido and Virgin do. Plus you get "member benefits" with Virgin also. So Virgin is a better deal overall.

Update: Additional data is $15/1GB vs $10/500MB at Fido and $5/100 MB at Koodo.

Update 2: Fido has added 1000 minutes LD to their 6GB and 8GB plan as well. But their additional data is still a bit more expensive than Virgin. So depending on your needs and the perks that you prefer, the choice is now between Fido and Virgin. Koodo is pretty much out of the picture.

This is an excellent plan. Too bad it's QC only, since it does have several advantages over the $40 Public Mobile plan.

It is a bring your own phone plan, $58 for a 8GB data plan, it is quite cheap. I know they have $150 free gift card, if you buying iphone 5s in bestbuy.

Anybody know how to get QC/SK/MB Fido or Virgin Mobile plans in Ontario?

I know it can be done on Koodo, just wondering if anybody has successfully done it on Fido/Virgin Mobile?

Long Distance Minutes only applies to India, Germany, China, Hong Kong, Bangladesh, United Kingdom, Italy, Mexico, Australia and Taiwan?

I think Fido had just upped their game by adding the 1000 minutes LD. But their overage data is still more expensive than Virgin. So I guess it's now down to whether you want fido roam and 6 month Spotify vs cheaper additional data and "member benefits".

Yes. Useful if you have relatives or business dealings in those countries. Virgin and Koodo have separate LD addons for calling to those countries and it costs $15-$20/month PER country. So this is a pretty good deal if you actually use it.

Just a thought. I don't know if this is even possible AT ALL. But I was playing around with Virgin's online sign up and noticed that when they asked you for a home city IN QUEBEC, there's actually an option to choose Ottawa as the city. And then when they ask you for your credit card and billing address, you are actually allowed to put in any address from any province. The "caveat" being they will only ship online orders to the billing address, and probably use that address for credit check as well. So I suspect that if you played it right, it just MIGHT be possible to get a QC plan with a Ottawa number. And since Ottawa is in Ontario, you just might perhaps maybe possibly with a slim chance be able to port in another ON number to it?

It's called having actual competition. QC, MB, and TBay all have their own telecom companies that actually compete with the Big 3.

Well not entirely true, you can buy a top up of 300mb for $7 or 1 GB for $15 from Fido before you run out of data, and Koodo gives the option for 1GB for $20 once you hit the shock-free limit

fido doesn't only give 1000 mins to 6GB and 8GB, 2,4,6,8GB are all eligible.
But i guess only 6 and 8GB plans are good deal. Otherwise public mobile is the way to go.
