[Virgin Mobile] Samsung Galaxy Tab for $11/mo with 2GB plus $60 Credit

Came across this deal today.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A for $1/mo on a 24 month contract.

Data is available at 2GB for $10 or 4GB for $15/mo.

This weekend only you also get a $60 bill credit which makes the first six months basically free.

No other hidden fees, and nothing up front.

Update May 19th: The website no longer says 'this weekend only' so I don't know when this actually expires.

Can't see any specs but if the first 6 months are free, this is actually pretty good for a tablet for kids or watching netflix

Ps. Android 9 Pie, tablet.

The specs are lower down in the page. Copying them here for easy reference.

The big battery sold me on it - it's perfect for road trips so you don't need to keep tethering your cellphone.

does this require a phone plan first?

So, 24 months @ $10 ($240); $24 for device = $264 less $60 bill credit. Total $204 + tax for tablet and plan. How does that compare to retail?

I don't if it's wrong to see it that way. But since we don't need LTE much for the next year, isn't $240 for the contract more expensive than the retail price of $200 at - $25 coupon from Staples?

Is this still the 8 inch model or the new 8.4 ? Their web page does show the picture of the 8.4 though.

Does Virgin still lock the SIM to the device?

I think freedom data is a way better deal because after the 4gb data runs out you still can use the internet with reduced speed... We had the tablet plans for my son and never caused an issue

You can not, as with most carrier deals you have to get the plan with it as well.

You didn't hear this from me, but you can use it in another device (tablet or phone) if you change the IMEI number on your Virgin profile. Most carrier tablet sims are locked via the IMEI to that specific device (to prevent people from using really cheap data on a phone and just rolling with a VOIP service for calls + texts or iMessage).

I got a $5 tablet plan from one of the big 3 a while ago that gave me a 2GB data plan and a free Huawei tablet (To clarify , the total monthly cost (plan + device) was $5 per a month). I switched the IMEI on file and popped the sim in my iPad instead. Its been working ever since.

Seems to be the 2018 model and not the 2019. The 2019 model is $200 for a reference point (2018 isn't sold anymore). So it seems to be an OK deal if you need the data.

Kinda confusing..

Image is 2020, battery is 2020 at 5000mah,

Processor is 1.4 - a 2019 version, says 8in and 8in is 2019 (2020 is 8.4in)

2020 and 2019 rear camera is 8mp, virgin ad shows 5mp.

image on their page is 2020 tab A but specs falls to 2019 version
