Virgin will not sell me a phone

So over the years i've bought all my phones unlocked online. The other day i was looking for a a certain phone and found that Virgin sells it for a decent price. I went to go pick it up and they said no. They only sell to customers. So i went to another store and asked if i could buy a phone as a gift for my girlfriend who is on Virgin. They said no i would have to bring her in there. So i said f it and just decided to buy a sim card and go prepaid with them to get the phone. Nope. Pre paid customers are only allowed to choose from 2 phones. Both were were flip phones lol. What the hell is going on ? Is this normal ?

Yup this is true 9/10 times but sometimes good deals can be found. This is a new model, the LG Q70, for $520. Koodo has it for $560 and Bell for $600.

I wonder if you can order it from Eastlink? They are cheaper, not sure if they would sell just the phone.

It's always been like that... Carriers are paid to sell plans, not phones. Most cell phone sales people are paid by commission, and no commission is paid when selling unlocked phones.

Even the kiosk at Costco won't sell you a phone without a plan...

Any specific reason you want that phone? Right now you can get the Galaxy A70 for cheaper, and that has equal or better specs. A70 is sold without a plan by various retailers or even Samsung direct. Maybe stack spc discount.

There is no girlfriend, i just made that up at Virgin to get them to sell me a phone lol. I'm with Chatr currently but thinking of making a switch since every time i look down i see only 3G on my phone.

You know what i was just thinking about picking up the A70 today. The LG looked good to me because it had a nice glass back. I've always had good luck with LG phones.

It's a good phone, the screen is much better than the LG, bigger battery, plus you get more RAM and double the storage. Available to buy easily, and you can return if you don't like it

They specifically said they were tired of the 3G icon, so they wanted faster speeds.

Just picked up the A70. Amazon was selling it for around $450 and Best Buy has it on sale for $500 so i drove over and grabbed it. I think $500 is a pretty good price. Nice large 1080p amoled. Thanks for the advice pal.

The Amazon version is international model with no warranty. You did the right thing by getting it from bestbuy, which sells the proper Canadian model with warranty

Lucky Mobile runs over LTE with speeds capped up to 3 Mbps plus unlimited data @ 128 Kbps after the 3G high speed data cap.

My point stands. It may run on the LTE network, but you're only getting 3G speeds until your data cap and then it drops to barely better than EDGE speeds.

Ya i thought so because i ran into an issue with an international phone model before where the Canadian version had NFC but the international did not.
