[VirginMobile.ca] (YMMV) Virgin S8 loyalty deal - $0 upfront and other discounts

I'm in Quebec and was on Virgin's BYOP $49 - 6Gb plan. Called in today asking for an upgrade to S8.

The Black Friday online offer is $100 upfront with $69 - 8Gb monthly for Quebec. I asked for the upfront fee to be waived and was transfered to loyalty.

The loyalty offer:
  • $0 upfront - $100 off
  • $10 monthly discount for 12 months - $120 off
  • 10% discount for the next 12 months - $82.8 off
  • Upgrade fee waived - $25 off

So the S8 is $0. I pay $59 monthly for 1st year, $62 monthly for 2nd year and get 8Gb data, unlimited calls + texts. Total cost is $276 for me factoring in the increase in monthly plan price.

I happened to be upgrading 2 lines so that might be the reason for their generosity. But if you're with Virgin, I still highly recommend calling in and ask for loyalty department to see if they can offer you anything. They have great reps and it is Black Friday after all :) Best of luck if you do.

I am on $50 - 6GB Plan ($45 with 10% off BYOP) since 2012. Any chance of me getting any deal?

You should call in and ask for loyalty. It's quite YMMV but since you're a longtime customer with a BYOP plan I think you have a chance there.

I already threw my $50 6gb, loyalty replace it by $47 4gb 500 minutes with free LG G6.

Called Customer Service. I think they don't transfer you to Loyalty/Retentions but put you on hold and discuss with specialists on the backend. The rep came back after 15 minutes and said the best we can offer you is 6GB for $95 with Galaxy S8. I said "OK Bye"

Similar situation and deal as OP, was on $48 - 5GB BYOD plan (SK), needed a new phone and decided on the S8. Called in today and told them other carriers had a bit better deal and asked if they could do any better. Got the S8 for $0, $65/month - 7GB plan for 2 years with $10 off/month for first year. Didn't get discount on 2nd year nor the upgrade fee waived, but works out pretty close to same overall cost. Slightly cheaper plan in SK than QC so perhaps that's why they didn't offer the other perks OP got. Or I didn't push hard enough, or maybe the fact I only had 1 line to upgrade. But overall the new phone is basically costing me $288+tax (of course catch is now I'm stuck on a 2yr contract).

And don't mess around with the sales and customer service depts, they will basically only read you what is on the website. You need the loyalty dept.

Might be a stupid question but does Virgin have the same tab system as Koodoo where you could just cancel and pay the reminder of the phone?

No they don't. Obviously cost of the phone is built into the monthly plan cost but its not transparent like Koodo. but at the end of the day I need a phone plan anyway, so I guess no need to worry about paying it off (unless I end up losing/breaking the phone I guess).
