If it helps, this is a good shootout between the two I found:

The gist being the gen 7 vs gen 9 chip means faster processing speeds + ram in the c9 allows for better blacks and quite a bit brighter HDR performance (with a bit better future-proofing on firmware I guess for the features HDMI 2.1 provides).
Otherwise, pretty much the same TV.

Made it worth the couple hundred extra $ for me to get the C9, I tend to keep TV's for quite a while before getting a new one...this is replacing a 55" 2012 Toshiba that has now gone into the bedroom.

Anyone know if there's enough clearance for a typical soundbar in front of these or will it block the bottom of the screen?

Last August the 55" C8 was on clearance at Costco for $1497 in August. I'm not sure about the 65", but I think it was around $2497. Then, a few remaining 55" C9s were cleared out on Sept 1 for $1297, but stock was VERY limited and vanished within hours. The 65" C8 dropped to around $2297 and then the last remaining ones were cleared around $1997 (Again, VERY limited quantities at select locations). So you might be able to pick up a C9 for a price that's similar to what the B9's are selling for now if you wait until August and jump as soon as you see the clearance price and then try to Price Match if you see any further reductions in price and can find stock after that. If you want the C9 then it might make sense to wait - the B9 might get a bit lower, but I don't think there will be much inventory beyond early summer.

As others have said, it'll likely be the new models on sale on Black Friday, but they won't be as cheap as the older clearance models (best guess would be $1799 for the new 55" and $2499 for the new 65").
It might be priced higher due to the weaker CAD.

darn, this really sucks. I've been eyeing the C9 for about a year now, I probably should have hopped on it when it was on sale for like $1700 during black friday last year.

Yes, that could happen. I still think the C9 will be in the ball park of the current B9 prices when it's being cleared out in the summer. It may not drop quite as low as the C8 did last year, but even with a low dollar I don't think it'll be way higher. I can't see the future though; if I could, I would've sold off most of my stocks in February.

I have been waiting for the 65" C9 to get around $2,500 but I am getting impatient and was thinking of just coughing up the $3,000. But, I rather buy the 65" B9 at $2,200 than the C9 at $3,000.

Decisions, decisions....

Gibbys seems to put the 65" C9 on sale for $2,500 in the earlier morning hours via their website and then increases the price back to the $3,000 later in the day. You might want to take a look there.

Although, that Costco extended warranty...

Anyone has a picture of current pricing at costco store of LG65B9? Don't want to go to a costco store these days too crazy, rather PM at Visions if possible.

Thanks

I'd take the B9 for $2200 over a C9 for $3000 any day. However, surely you should be able to find the C9 for less than $3000. The question is how much less.

Same panel but better processor and software in the C9. Is it worth $800? Definitely no IMHO. See above. Based on my experience with the B8 vs the C8, I'd say it's worth a couple of hundred dollars. Maybe $300, if you're really picky.

For motion handling settings with interpolation, the C8 was better than B8, but IMO the C8's motion handling is still poor so I turn any interpolation off anyway. C8 probably had slightly better handling of black/grey gradients than B8 with poor quality encodes (assuming I'm not imagining the differences), but but when the encodes were good, they both looked good.

Oh yeah, C8 has better speakers than the B8, but again, the speaker quality is bad enough on the C8 that I'd never want to use it anyway.

Judging by reviews, it seems differences between the C9 vs B9 are similar to my experiences with the C8 vs B8.
