Probably at least a 2 node mesh setup is more suitable which should be under $300.MauriceLaFlamme wrote: ↑ What router would you recommend for a 3 storie house where the router is in basement?
I have tried Netgear R7000 R8000 R8000P Asus AC86u and the Linksys EA9500v2
All of these routers only give me 50-60mbps on the top floor of house on the 5ghz band, not enough to stream some things that need 200mbps
I also read to avoid any AX router released before October 2019 is it is running beta chips not fully supporting wifi6.
Budget isnt really an issue, anything around thre $300 mark would be fine.

if you still have your ac86U, just get another asus router that supports AiMesh and build a mesh network.MauriceLaFlamme wrote: ↑ What router would you recommend for a 3 storie house where the router is in basement?

Good buy.
Just don't buy it online if you are unsure whether to keep it or not. There's a thread in shopping discussion in regards to Staples and their return processing.

Not much tech jargon was used...it was recommended you get a mesh wifi setup that has two components (the mesh router + 1 additional 'node'). Something like this: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07PFQZB8H/ref ... =UTF8&th=1MauriceLaFlamme wrote: ↑ English (or French) please. Not tech jargon.

in this case, I would get the visions.ca two pack deal and give that a shot.MauriceLaFlamme wrote: ↑ No I don't have it, got rid of it as it functioned like a $100 router.

I have this router running Asus Merlin sharing media on a hard drive on the USB2 port (rear of router; USB3 on the front)geokilla wrote: ↑ ... It's a very powerful router for the money and with the USB ports, you can attach a hard drive to it so it I think? I never tried but it is something I'm going to try in the future.
Merlin firmware
Just to be complicated, I have shell scripts that send me & my wife an email when sites are blocked by OpenDNS Family.
I use the Asus android app with it which is cool.
I really like it. It has better range & speed in my home than the RT-AC66U (non B1) it replaced.

This should be the B1 version based on the UPC listed.tianos wrote: ↑ Vision 2 pack AC66U
Visions 1 pack AC66U
This might not be B1 version but someone can order to confirm as sometimes retailer enters in incorrect model number etc. Just a suggestion here. You could also PM the single one but again need to confirm if B1 version or not.

That says AC1200 - it's a lot slower than what I have been using for last 6 years (AC1900). Why AC1200 in 2020 when AC3000,4000,5000,5400,6000 exists?game_fanatic wrote: ↑ Not much tech jargon was used...it was recommended you get a mesh wifi setup that has two components (the mesh router + 1 additional 'node'). What is the feature set like on here? Port forwarding? DMZ? stability?

Maybe it's not a problem anymore. I don't know. But there was a thread in Shopping Discussion where people were having problems getting Staples refunding their money for their returned purchases originally bought through staples.ca The last post was January 15th, so maybe it's not a problem anymore. Just wanted to give a heads up just to be aware of it.

I truthfully didn't spend much time looking, you didn't know what another poster was talking about regarding mesh wifi but since you know about AC1200/port forwarding/DMZ I'm sure you can find something that suits your needs.MauriceLaFlamme wrote: ↑ That says AC1200 - it's a lot slower than what I have been using for last 6 years (AC1900). I know that bigger #s are better... but I tried the EA9500v2 which is AC5200 and speed at third level was about the same as AC1750. Speed on same level was faster.game_fanatic wrote: ↑ I truthfully didn't spend much time looking, you didn't know what another poster was talking about regarding mesh wifi but since you know about AC1200/port forwarding/DMZ I'm sure you can find something that suits your needs.
Because I know of 1 old technology from 8 years ago (AC router) doesn't mean I know about newer thing like Mesh and Drobo routers and AIMesh and AX.
