Seems like a good deal if you are in need of a new deck. Only apple car play and not android auto.... these are usually not too hard to install yourself (as long as you don't mind working on vehicles) but if you are going to pay someone to install I would recommend waiting and getting a nice kenwood or sony on sale (most likely they will not go this cheap but IMO they are better units).

For some reason I've noticed CarPlay only HU are very common, I havent seen a Android Auto only unit anywhere. A few years back I made the mistake of buying a CarPlay only unit, it was advertised as being android ready too, but that was just for audio playback or some crap. Long story short, I just replaced that two year old HU with a newer one that had both.

Does the phone have to connect via USB, for Carplay to work, or is it bluetooth as well? Image below is throwing me off.

Most lower end units have wired Carplay connections.

CarPlay is USB only on this model. Wireless CarPlay models are $$$

You can play audio via Bluetooth but it won’t be using CarPlay.

Why is that?
Is Car Play easier and cheaper (HW and SW) to implement comparing to Android Auto?

crutchfield.ca is THE place to go for the rest of the stuff you'll need (wiring harness, antenna cable, double din bracket).
