[Visions Electronics] Kef M500 Hi-Fi On-Ear Headphones - $98

Hi All,

Update - June 29th: headphones still on sale for $98 as per their flyer this week, available in-store and online!

Visions Electronics have posted a deal for Kef M500 headphones. They're going for $95 (90$ if you pick it up in-store, credit to Toguy for this info!); I don't see any deals being posted here for this set of headphones before, only for their sibling, the m400s, but these seem to be getting great reviews online.

Amazon has it for 300$. Too bad wired:(
Stay strong, situation always looks harder and that it will never end when you are in the middle of it, but remember past experiences, everything has an ending.

Wish there were around-the-ear. Looking for a pair to replace my rather aged UE 6000. (Use them at the office for Skype conferencing...BT/wireless mic just isn't there when it comes to competing even with cheap inline wired mics.)

It's actually $5 less ($90) if you order online for ISPU.

on ear = no thanks for me.

But these are pretty decent headphones, from my 5 minutes of trying them out. Great deal if you can stand on-ears!

these came out in 2013. Wondering if headphone technology/ergonomics has significantly improved over the last 5 years?

yes and no. There's lots of good research happening on the headphone front http://seanolive.blogspot.com/ and there are a large number of great sounding headphones using planar technology have been appearing in the last decade

The headphone market has exploded with choices in every price range and there are more high end headphones than ever. But for every good headphone, there are a equal or more new headphones appearing that aren't worth their asking cost. (surprisingly enough, a lot of them are high priced....paying $$$ doesn't always mean great sound)

These seemed to be pretty good from what I heard, I wouldn't pay $300 for them but for $100, they might be a good value. Only thing is that ON EAR headphones are inherently uncomfortable for me, cause they WILL hurt my ears after an hour no matter how well engineered the cups are.

I have tried and bought wwwaayyy too many headphones but the M500 are the best on ear headphones that I tried overall. Not as detailed as a pair of Beyerdynamic T51i or an Audeze Sine but the comfort is great (for an on ear), the sound is enjoyable but on the warm side. The soundstage is also surprisingly realistic and so is the separation of the instruments. Really recommended at this price point.

Thanks! Ordered! Visions has really great prices on KEF. I bought 3 Q100 a couple months ago for the living room. I love that brand.

Nice, ordered! Sounds like at full price there might be better options, but for $95 I don't think anything could compete! I need new headphones to use at work, where I also need to use them for Skype. This should do nicely. Just need to wait and see if they fit comfortably on my giant head.

Funny thing is I was just reading about these yesterday.

Some reviewers have it in comparison with the Sennheiser HD 25 and Momentum.

It measures similarly to the Audio Technica M50x:

Golden Ears have also made different measurements for the KEF here - http://en.goldenears.net/23944.

Of course, measurements are only one part of the equation. The housing and enclosure are other factors. Looks like a decent choice if you're looking for a new (wired) headphone.

Haven't bought anything from Visions in such a long time. Return policy looks pretty good:

15 days to decide if you like it enough to keep it. This is very tempting indeed.

Remember the time vision sold the monster turbines and Mile Davis for 99? I bought 3 of those and used one and kept two new and sold on ebay over a year later for 300 each for the new one. People actually buy those.

Wonder this one can make some money flipping. Ebay seems used sold for 130 ish so won't be making much I think.

What's up with the channel imbalance with this headphone? Even Tyll's measurement is exhibiting significant imbalance. Is this a common problem with this headphone or did they measure the same review sample?

I got a Beyer DT880 Pro from 10 years ago.. is this going to be like a big change or decrease in quality and comfort?

Probably better quality but not by much, and the 880s for sure are more comfy, they are some of the most comfortable headphones that exist for extended listening.
