Wow, they still make these bad boys? I got these included with an HP Media Centre PC back in 2003.

Sadly the volume control bit the dust, and they started making bad static sounds every time I adjusted them.

I would look at Audioengine A2+ or A5+ if you have the money/space. OR M-Audio AV42 if you want to spend a bit less are good too.

Man, I can't believe how much these have gone up in price. When I worked retail ~10 years ago these were regular price at like $150.

I'll second Audioengine or M-Audio speakers... both sound great. Though, I'd go with the M-Audio BX3 over the AV42.

Yeah either/or would probably be good. If you're looking at studio monitors though then the selection is huge, and there's a lot of other brands besides M-Audio.

People say Edifier are better than Audio engines for the price but I could be wrong. I have the A5+ for many years and they seem fine but doesnt sound anything special.

Agreed... but there's not much out there for under $200.

I have the original A5s, i.e. the non + version, before they started jacking the prices up. I think I paid around $350ish for it all in. Still running strong. There's not too much selection with higher end computer speakers TBH. I'm not sure if I would buy the A5+ at the current prices though.

You can fix that by using contact cleaner in the volume control.

I got this promedia 2.1 for $99.99 about 8 years ago . at first the sound amazing. but after a few years the speakers sounds statickie when nothing is on (except the speaker itself)
I just dont like that you cant turn the speaker off unless u unplug the cord (currently using as a tv speaker)

My main pc speaker are the Audioengine A5+ that i got for about $350 about 10 yrs ago . and paired with a Soundblaster Z sound card

Thanks OP! I'm still rockin' these on my desktop set up. Recently put them on speaker stands to get them off the desk and at ear level. Love these speakers :)
