[Visions Electronics] Sony 6.95" 2-Din Head Unit Apple CarPlay and Android Auto CAD 298

Deal is back, not for too long though.

Sony XAV-AX3000
6.95" 800 x 480 (WVGA) Resistive Touchscreen
55 Watts x4
3s bootup time
Apple CarPlay - wired
Android Auto - wired
Steering wheel control (builtin for newer cars)
Compact rear chassis

For a Sony HU, can't go wrong with CAD 300.

Go to crutchfield to find your compatible wiring harness / adapters. (Universal for most Sony HUs).

Yes some random brand names have similar ones for ~200. I'd choose Sony because it's for my car not my lawnmower, Sony HUs run extremely stable/smooth.

Nice find. We had the sony 100 series in my wife's car and really liked it. This is a great price to bring an older vehicle up to today's standards of car-play and AA

I purchased earlier this year. It is a good basic Head Unit which has been working well, but Sony has not updated since January.

Thanks for posting OP.

Dumb question from someone who isn't tech savvy, how do you connect this to an older car's sound system if the car doesn't have Bluetooth?

Thanks in advance!

You literally wire it into the existing sound system.

It’s pretty easy. Google your car model + year + harness

You also need a double din dash kit, and possibly a adapter for steering wheel controls(If you want to use them), as well as an optional backup camera.

does anyone know if this unit can support video playbacks thru USB connection? If yes, what format/resolution?

Doesn’t visions do at cost for front line workers? I’d be curious to see if it’s cheaper.

I haven't installed a 3rd party head unit for 10+ years but this is really tempting.

I have some questions for the car audio gurus that might be checking this thread out:

I have an '07 Passat (non-premium sound system) and I seem to remember back in the day the sound would be a bit tinny (in like a 97 Jetta). Would I expect the same from this? Is it best to buy a 4 channel amp to use with this or is that overkill? I don't need incredible sound but I don't want it to be worse.

Do thieves still steal aftermarket HU? This may be really tempting to a theft given its retail price.

How’s he cold weather performance of this thing? I know capacitive screens suck in the cold, are resistive any better?
