[Visions Electronics] Sony 65" 4K HDR Smart Android TV with Picture Processor X1 Ultimate (XBR65X950G) $1498 In Store Only YMMV

Decent price for a nice non OLED TV. In store only so based on availability. Probably last of these as the 2020 950H becomes available.

London Drugs is $1400, but shows as open box or display model and is also YMMV since stock varies from store to store.

Great deal, this is the same price 65X900F has been selling for on clearance. In the 65" size they're pretty even but the X950G has the edge and is a year newer model.

Also this is the same TV as the 2020 X950H, you can even put the 950H f/w on it. So makes it even better deal when you compare it that way. Still this TV has not been promised/confirmed there will be and update for VRR, HFR, like the X900H has, which is something to consider if you want those things (basically gamer features).

Edit: Oh wow the 55" is also $1000 :) That's pretty darn good too.

Also list of available locations looks real slim, the 65" is showing none in ON for example. 55" is spotty just one unit here and there.

Good price, upvoted! It’s a great display, no doubt.

Just my personal experience: I had the X900F which struggled with the OS and unfortunately bricked 9 months in. Got a brand new X950G as warranty replacement, but it’s also struggling similar to the X900F with the latest Android update (apps crash, OS reboots at odd times, among others). It might be worth investing in external smart devices (firestick, shield, etc.) to accompany the TV in order to alleviate some headaches. Maybe just got lemons both times.

Same thing here. I got a X900F from Costco. UI was too slow. I returned it for a X950G from refurbished.ca for the same price (with only 20h of usage!). Great deal !

I installed the firmware from the X950H on the X950G. UI is buttery smooth compared to the X900F.

X950G is a great TV !

Did Visions not have this sale recently? The handful in-store only will probably be open box/display.

I recommend the 950H FW, did mine and noticeable improvement as others on AVSforum, iirc it’s also a different contrast and local dimming algorithm.

Bought the 55" for 1170 from Black Friday sale last year. Fully enjoying it since then. I recently also upgraded the firmware to the H Version and have noticed slight picture improvement to my eyes. From my understanding, any future firmwares will recognize it as a H TV so should be getting all the bells and whistles for the 2020 lineup.

The sale is still on, but now it's at $1698.

To check availability, you need to check the link in OP's post
https://www.visions.ca/product-detail/4 ... XBR65X950G

If you look at the latter link, it says "in store only." These are actually open box units and not BNIB. We checked out the unit at the west Edmonton location but there are a couple of noticeable scratches on it, so we passed. I ended up buying the open box model from the north Edmonton location last week and it has been working great. Flashed the firmware to X950H and noticed better performance in local dimming and software navigation.

I called Visions and can confirm your post that they are all open box.

Where did you get the 950H firmware. I understand Sony pulled it off their site to prevent this as 950G has the same internals as the 950H.

Thanks.

Apparently, from what I read on a AV forum, it won’t flash in the 950G.

You also can’t get auto updates.

When did you do this ?

Thanks.

Where did you read that you can’t use this firmware on the 950G? I’m using it on my 950g without any issues.

It’s usable but apparently Sony did something to prevent future updates and changed it recently so that you can’t flash it on the 950G.

There’s a tag in the firmware that can check the model number and prevent the install.

Somebody modified the firmware that allows it to flash but you no longer can get the universal version from Sony.

Check out some AV forums and there’s plenty of discussion about this.

There are different versions of the (H) firmware. You can follow the discussions by going through some of the later posts in this forum: https://www.avsforum.com/forum/166-lcd- ... k-220.html. You can also find links to the 6.4738 (H) firmware that posters have provided. Some posters mentioned that they jumped directly from 6.3626 (G) to 6.4770 (H), but I played it safe and doing it this way: 6.3626 (G) -> 6.4738 (H) -> 6.4770 (H).

Man what rubbish are you spreading? I already told you I used the fw posted on Sony’s site and flashed my panel without issue and without any form of modification.
