[Visions Electronics] STR-DN1080 Sony receiver $498.00 $201 off

I missed this Boxing Day at Best Buy. Tried to PM at Best Buy tonight on the phone but got denied as it’s Final Sale/non refundable at Visions.

So to get Dolby Atmos. Obviously a source movie. And this receiver. Do I need more than my 5.1 speakers?

It is my understanding this receiver can transmit to BT Heaphones, which my STR-770 can't, I have to go though our Sony TV for that. Neither have Phono input and I know the current Phono's suck on my receivers, so I've already order a PreAmp from L&M.

Can it handle 2 sets of BT headphones for both kids to hook up to?

I'm wondering how much of an upgrade this will be over my Costco STR-770 that I got for $299 . https://www.costco.ca/Sony-STRDH770-7.2 ... 81657.html

I only need 5.1 and have no intention of adding more speakers, our room can't handle it or have the room. It's mainly for watching TV, Gaming and Netflix.

How is the video pass through on this? I had the Yamaha 3060 and there was a slight difference in the image. i was very disappointed given it is supposed to be a top tier home theater receiver.

Any feedback from other receivers is appreciated. I am picky about the picture being consistent.

Thanks

Ya this goes on sale for $500 pretty often

I have it. Pretty good reciever so far.

The only limitation I ran into was if you want an audio only input you must sacrifice a HDMI port.
There are only as many inputs as there are HDMI ports and they cannot be reassigned.

Yes, you need at least two more Atmos speakers - either mounted in the ceiling, or you can get those up firing speakers to be placed on top of your current speakers to bounce off the ceiling.

Onkyo seems to have all options I am looking for.
I swear by Onkyo for some of the best mid range great price receivers. I have 4 throughout my house and they are all great. I have never been a huge Sony fan. The Onkyo also has 2 Optical inputs which is something I would rather have.

Thanks. I see there are sound bars that also do the up firing thing. Can I replace my centre speaker with one of those soundbars and get the same effect? I don't want to Mount ceiling speakers. And I can't place speakers on top of my front speakers.

I have a SR-806 and between replacing the caps twice now and the blue spots problem I won't buy Onkyo again
Their audio is great but the video section is terrible

Never heard of or had any of those problems. I get it though, newer Onkyo seem to have less problems? Basically any mid range receiver can have problems, buy one with what you need and hope for the best. Sony or Onkyo should serve you fine.
