VOIP.MS - add $15 and they will add $15 - targeted

Retailer:
VOIP.MS
This appears to be "win-back" targeted at existing customers who happen to have a low balance.

"We appreciate you and would love to continue to be your VOIP provider.

I want to offer you an exclusive 1-1 deposit match up deal. I will match your $15 deposit. If you deposit $15, I’ll bump up your account by an extra $15.
"

To get your match (and its a YMMV)
1. Deposit $15
2. Create a ticket under "Billing Issue"
3. Refer to the deposit $15 match up $15 offer

I got my $15 and others have confirmed a match also.

Nice, I haven't gotten any email.
1. Have you been a customer for long?
2. If I may ask, was your balance too low before reload?

I have to reload soon but this might help. Thanks in advance.

Where do you even see that? They have such a crappy customer service I'd be so hesitant after the 3 weeks they were down

This is targeted

They were not "down" for 3 weeks. They had weeks worth of issues due to a massive DDOS attack. Everyone with an online presence eventually gets hit by an outage of some kind eventually.

I've been with them for a few years. I autorenew when it hits $5.
Dear rilles,

A few days ago, I sent you a message telling you about some of the things our team has been working on:

We implemented several best-in-class solutions, including anti-DDoS solutions from Cloudflare, to improve our overall network resilience and minimize the risks of services disruptions for our customers.
We launched a highly detailed status page providing real-time visibility to our services, features, and points of presence.
We hired a Marketing & Communications Director to improve our overall communications and double down on customer experience.

We appreciate you and would love to continue to be your VOIP provider.

I want to offer you an exclusive 1-1 deposit match up deal. I will match your $15 deposit. If you deposit $15, I’ll bump up your account by an extra $15.

Let me know your thoughts.

My experience with their support had been great. The support person knew what they were doing and also took the time to test/trace connections with me to resolve an issue.

I added $15 just now.
The email ends with "Let me know your thoughts." Did you let her know your thoughts before adding $15? I thought it was required to receive the match. Did you get the extra $15?

When it comes to VOIP, if you have “issues”, you are down. Having to flip flop between their servers trying to find a working server was not a viable fix. Sure an outage can affect anyone, but the way voipms handled the outage / their preparedness was awful.

People also need to be mindful these are USD

They were down for 3 weeks by DDOS and all they did was to play from the world's smallest violin. They claimed they were only down for 2 weeks because they were forwarding phones but what they didn't tell you is that you need to change your URL to boston

I want to offer you an exclusive 1-1 deposit match up deal.

I received the same email. I've been a customer for over a decade and my balance is running low, around $5.

But the weird part is the email subject "Ready to come back to VoIP.ms? I will match your next deposit." I've never left voip.ms to come back, and wasn't going to.

Maybe send a reply to the email with a screenshot of your receipt for the $15 purchase and your Username to ensure they know which account to credit.

hmm, I was low and may have jumped the gun here. I did reply with a "woot! $15 dollars added"

I thought it was "sorry for the DDOS crap - here is a deal" vs "come back to us - here is a deal" as I never "left".

One other note on VOIP.ms (I was a user for 2 years) - porting out from them is a PITA. I parked my Canadian number there for a couple of years and had it forwarded to my US mobile number.

That worked OK, but not great. A bit of a delay on voice conversations, and their SMS forwarding was very hit and miss (and given you can't respond from your mobile phone, not always useful).

It took over a month to port my number out to Freedom Mobile where I now have it on a $129 / year unlimited Canadian voice/text plan. My US number is still my data line (SIM/eSIM on my iPhone) but it's so much better to have my Canadian number directly on my phone instead of forwarded.

They were never completely down for me. I could place and received calls during that time but I haven't missed any calls. I am not always on the phone, so I might have been lucky with timing. I also followed the recommendations and changed servers a couple of times.

Why did it take so long to port? Porting is done solely on the receiving side. Why don't you blame Freedom Mobile? And you need to delete the DID on voip.ms afterwards.

So, no extra $15 yet?

It's been about 20 minutes since I added my $15 and sent a reply email with my receipt and haven't received the bonus $15, so not automatic for me.

They were definitely down for multiple points during the whole 3 weeks. I constantly saw registration failed message. Texts didn't arrive for hours/days.

I use them, but only as a forwarding and call filtering for home phone.

I got the email on one of two accounts. Has anyone tried it yet?

I missed several important calls during the extended DDOS outage, and I don't think voip.ms handled it very well. I got my information and mitigation actions from RFD while voip.ms was pretending it didn't happen.

I suspect this true. Both of my accounts are years old, but the one that got the email had a low balance.
