i don't have my vpn on 24/7. most of time only when I need download something. my renewal with expressvpn is coming up soon, any recommendations on vpn deals? something like express, more stable, not drop off or disconnected during overnight download? what's the market going-rate now?

If the OP does geolocation and such for Netflix as well, then yes going a VPN makes more sense but that's up to the OP to decide. I have 2 lifetime VPN's + a separate seedbox, so the OP could also look at getting a lifetime VPN and call it a day.

1) 24/7 up time is the huge advantage imo. If you are on a private torrent site that requires a 50/50 ratio and a 14 day share requirement, you would have to leave your computer on for 14 straight days and hope your VPN doesn't disconnect during those 14 days. If the VPN has a killer switch, now you have just extended your 14 day share requirement. A seedbox works with both private and public torrents.

2) No letters from Bell, Rogers, Cogeco, Telus, etc.... When I was using a VPN for torrenting prior to getting a seedbox, I would get the odd email from my internet provider about copyright infringement. Since getting a seedbox, I have never received an email or letter.

3) Drop and walk away. If you are downloading a torrent with not a lot of seeders, it can take hrs/days to download the file, thus you need to leave your computer/VPN on to complete the download. With a seedbox, I download the torrent file, click and drag into my seedbox, wait for the notification on my seedbox to say it has the torrent file and start to download and I walk away. I can come back in a few hrs/days and I know the file is there for me to get it when I want it.

I can go on and on. It all comes down to how much you value your privacy and not getting those letters. If all you do is torrenting, a seedbox is the way to go imo. I'll never go back and once you realize the benefits and security of a seedbox, I guarantee you won't either. It's just so much more convenient even though there is the further step of downloading the file off the seedbox, you'll understand what I mean when you see it as it is hard to explain. Once you go seedbox, you'll never go back to a VPN for torrenting
