[Walmart] $1 wired optical mouse in-store Clearance (+20c eco fee for me) YMMV

I searched Google with the model number ona19ho001c but couldn't find an exact match. I also couldn't figure out how to find it on stocktrack, I tried multiple numbers from that tag on the rack but nothing came up.

I have a specific need for many mice for quick short uses where the quality of it doesn't matter much, last couple times I purchased were Lenovo and Princess Auto cheapos, all sufficient, but none as cheap as $1. Of course being an RFD'er, even though I currently have enough, I still grabbed a few of these $1 ones for backups.

Windsor Ontario east store has plenty.

EDIT: Taking it out of the package the first thing I noticed is it weighs "nothing" so to speak, feels very cheap, as expected I guess though the $3 Princess Auto mice from awhile back definitely feel a lot better than this. Seems to work fine though, scrolls OK, moves OK, maybe not so precise in very small movements but OK.

RFDers will still find a way to complain about the quality somehow.

They could give it for free, it will still end up in a drawer for 10years before eventually being thrown out.

Buying a bunch and donating it to an organization in need of computer equipment would be a decent idea.

I think you missed where OP mentioned he has “a specific need for many mice for quick short uses”.
But march on, “stop hoarding!!”

I see I need to add a /sarcasm
I thought it was obvious with the extra exclamation point.

Sorry.

why not just buy the wireless one for $4 from dollarama? I know there is a price difference, but no cord is the winner to me.

You can buy 4 wired ones for that price! Lol
But seriously, there are many devices that only allow a wired USB mouse - a laypersons example is a Security system DVr. Or Sony broadcast equipment

It may not be the same one but I have (maybe had) a wireless mouse from Dollarama, purchased some time ago definitely before the pandemic, and it was pretty bad, as in often unusable. I don't know if something around was interfering but of the less than 10 times I used it, maybe half those times the movement was all screwy and I couldn't make use of it.

But I would agree $4 for wireless would be better if they both worked fine all the time. For testing PCs and various screwing around wireless is nice to have, again as long as it always works and with every device, during POST, etc. etc. you get the idea. But in the one specific situation where I need several mice, basically think like a LAN party, having to bother with batteries becomes a hassle.

I just opened and connected one of these $1 mice, I will update.

I should consider myself lucky. I have a couple of those wireless ones and they all work fine for like almost 2 years now. But a third one failed because I dropped it and one of the clicking piece was sticking.

And the scroll wheel won't last 8 years. Sensor is only 800 DPI. This mouse should only be $0.30!

This happened to me too. I ended up putting the receiver in the front of my PC instead of the back, and it started working. Better line of sight or something....may be the opposite in some cases.

The company gives wired mice to everyone (dont know why). A lot of collègues bought the dollarama and they work fine.

I think if you use it on a notebook, it'll be fine.

Most cheaper wireless mice have very weak signals that work mostly on line-of-sight. So if you have your PC under your desk or behind an obstruction or being far away, your mouse will skip, not register clicks and jerky scrolls, and generally act inconsistent as your mouse and receiver struggle to maintain communication. I've had that even on cheaper Logitech mice where my PC is under my desk and my mouse acts inconsistently and skipping badly. As soon as I relocate my receiver with a USB extension to the top of my desk, my mouse works much better and reliably.

It doesn't help that wireless mice generally work in the 2.4 GHz range, which is the noisiest spectrum neighbourhood for your mouse signal to overcome other noises like yours (and your neighbours') home wireless phone, Wi-Fi, microwave, baby monitor, etc.
Why settle for full retail price when you can wait and get it at a lower price for better value (even better if there's a bundled freebies deal)? 😉
