Question:

I got this tablet for browsing and watching streams - to my incredibly disappointment it doesn't support multi-window out of the box - apparently i will need to root it and unlock the feature. Fine. However, I tried connecting the tablet via microUSB to my PC to do the root and it doesnt recognize the tablet. What I'm wondering is my tablet fubard? or does the microusb port on this tablet only support charging and you need to use the USB port for file transfer / recognizing a PC

This is a $100 basic 10" tablet for kids/general purpose.

FYI, you can charge it with the adapter it comes with or through microUSB as well.

so are you confirming that this tablet doesn't have the capability to connect to a PC for file management? I was able to exchange mine at a local walmart - and I am getting the same error when I try to connect my tablet to my PC (device descriptor request failed), I have used multiple cables and PC's / laptops. I am pretty surprised this tablet can not connect to a PC that seems ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ errrrrrr.

Did not try or care. I bought this mainly for my 3 years old, and my wife might use it occassionally for streaming movies if she didn't want to bother watching it on TV.

I did a quick search online and found out RCA has stated that the USB port only works with non-powered storage devices (memory sticks, SD cards, etc.). Your computer, or phone, will not connect.

However, there's someone saying that they got it to work by plugging it into the power in addition to connecting USB A to USB A.

I did some research and the micro USB out is for charging only.

Below are some help I found online. I didn't get to try any of these yet.

If you are only looking to transfer files, buy from Google Store the Wifi File Transfer Pro for $1.40 USD.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... rpro&hl=en

You can also apparently buy a special cable from RCA for $20 for this. But this is costly.

There are other methods such as rooting. Here:

https://forum.xda-developers.com/androi ... k-t3325158

Someone else also said that if you plug in the power into the micro USB and then use the USB-A slot to connect the Viking to your PC with a USB-A to USB-A cable, it works.

After about a week with it, I have to say that it was a pretty solid buy. It would have been nice to have that extra gig of RAM, but it gives enough for I paid for.
