Regular battery maintenance by charging car battery periodically with a charger. It is better to buy a charger than getting a jump starter. Jump starter may get you going. You still need a charger to fulling charge your battery. Charging your battery with your car alternator will never fully charge your battery.
Just my $0.02
Have too many phones... This is how I limit my monthly phone payment.
Public Mobile $34 15GB, $11 250MB, 2x $5 50min/50text, $0 FPL home phone,
Fido $5 4GB plan with a free tablet.

Agreed.

But the jump starter is useful for emergencies. I was stuck with a car that didn't start on a hot summer day with a screaming newborn, and I was lucky to have a kind stranger help me jump start the car. I bought one of these the same night.

But you're right; SLA batteries don't like to be at lower than optimal voltage. If you're not driving the car for a while (say 1-2+ weeks), disconnect the negative. If the car hesitates to start; trickle charge using a charger until it's healthy again and monitor voltage.

I have this exact unit. Big believer in overkill (mostly capacity, as those tiny wires never could handle that much amperage) Has worked 3 times for me over the past 1.5 years. I bought it originally thinking it would be a great backup for friends/family during the 'vid not driving.

That being said, it has helped

1) jump a friend's car when he didn't drive to work a lot
2) my own car TWICE, when the brand new SLA battery failed

+has USB-PD (Type-C) in/out so no proprietary barrel connector for charging, I could take this inside and plug it anywhere, granted it might take a while without PD.
+flashlight
+comes with power brick + USB cables
+is essentially a large format powerbank (emergency usage?)

The only gripe I have with it is the "boost" button, when the jumper can't sense line voltage it needs a small pen/stylus to press the boost button. I use my pinky nail and just manage to get it pushed enough to click.

Too bad it was pulled from Amazon.ca for fake reviews. It's been nothing but solid to me, and I got it at ~$115 IIRC. I agree a good battery charger will be a better investment. But most people just aren't going to go through that for a ~$100 SLA battery and by law of large number, won't. This is something you keep in the car, and I'm glad I do. The caveat to that is if you don't live in Vancouver and it gets to -39532905378 degrees it could slash it's effectiveness.

Oh and before someone calls it out, OPs account is 4 days old... has a shilly wiff. But I still like the product.

I should add that if you have slow-start, it's not always the battery. I learned that starters (including the bastard re-manned ones that are relatively new) can and do fail and will exhibit every symptom of a dead/dying battery- good idea to pickup that load tester from Princess Auto :)

I got the stanley booster with air inflator for $143 on sale. Its expensive right now but if you can get it on sale then its worth it. Its boosted completely dead batteries without fail. Also works at the beach to plug in usb cables to charge your devices

Completely different type of booster pack, that thing is old school, its Lead Acid, huge and heavy. These li-po pack is charged by USB-C cable, and actually portable.

I highly recommend everyone keep one of these jump starters in their vehicle. They've saved the day for myself and others a bunch of times.

No offense but I had one of these and it was shit. Shit booster paired with a shit inflator. Better off buying separate quality ones. These old school ones don't hold a charge as well so you have to charge them more often which means it won't last as long either. And as another poster said, they are heavy and awkward to work with.

For those that want another option and are not in a hurry. I think this is a very good option and it's cheaper (62$):

Audew Car Jump Starter Power Bank

Project Farm tested it and it scored very well.

Which Car Jump Starter Is Best?

It used to be impossible to order in Canada (Some lithium shipping restriction issue, I asked them about it) and it now seems available to order from Aliexpress. I just ordered one, we'll see if it goes through.

Thanks. I was considering this or the Shell SH916WC one on Costco. This one seems better on paper though.

While I do not have this specific brand (purchased a similar device from Amazon last year. I cannot recommend enough, I have had to use it over half a dozen times this year between multiple cars. It is just so portable and easy to use compared with jumping from another car battery

How often do these need to be charged? I often wanted to buy one but I'm fearful that it will run out of juice right when I need it.
