[Walmart] Acer Aspire 3 15.6" AMD Ryzen 3 3200U A315-42-R455 - $388

Great budget laptop with a Ryzen processor. Not as great as the Asus Vivobook that was on sale on Amazon.ca for $299 last month but this one has a 15.6" screen with the same specs.

Most folks here say that Windows Home S can be upgraded to Windows 10 Home standard relatively easily and for free. Hopefully someone will chime in to confirm and show/say how it is done.

Actually, I'm glad to learn of this! Win 10S would work much better on my mom's crappy dual-core Pentium machine. Win10 ran like ass with CPU constantly maxing at 100% and everything freezing. I figured Linux was my only option!
I had an interesting signature once... then it was tarnished forever. :(

It's 1366x768 -- you don't wanna see that on a 17". In fact, you probably don't want it on a 15".

removing win10 S mode isn't as easy as the acer video shows. in order to get rid of S mode via app store, you must have a microsoft account. windows will now ask you to "sign in" after clicking on "get", and you cannot progress further

the more permanent way to remove S mode and without any sign-in, is to reboot into bios and disable secure boot. let the machine reboot and do a windows update, and the license will convert to win 10 home edition by itself. then go back to bios and re-enable secure boot again, and home edition should continue to stick, even if you do a fresh install of windows
