RAM
NVMe
and a slot for a 2.5" drive but you'll need to find the adapter kit.

Getting deja vu from the X412-DA Deal in 2020.

Can't make sense if it's a good deal or not lol.

Upgradeable ram, 6-core cpu, and under $500, good.

Much older Zen2 Ryzen chip, Asus build quality and reliability, not so good.

The R5-5500U may be a Zen2 architecture but it was launched in 2021 and performs about the same as an 11th gen i5 which isn't bad at all for 460$

Powerful laptop for sub $500.

One SODIMM allowing 32GB + 8GB = 40GB of RAM.

You've got a winner here.

What kind of cooler is being used? I see a fan but no heatpipe connecting the cpu to it. Or maybe I'm missing something.

Hard to tell with Asus models, but if this correct, 250nits with 45% NTSC :(

I just tried searching the actual model number, so not completely sure if correct (but tbh I wouldn't be expecting a good screen).

I don't know if it's just a coincidence, but every time I see someone, especially the OP, comment about downvotes to their own thread, I feel like that just invites more downvotes lol

It's almost like some folks just see it and are thinking, "Oh? You're so concerned about downvotes to your own thread that you had to call it out and make a post about it? Well, then here's another downvote! Just because!"

I saw a different thread maybe a few days ago where the OP got one vote, a downvote, soon after posting the thread and proceeded to immediately comment about the downvote, despite there not being any other posts in the thread yet. I went to look at the thread a few minutes later, and it was pretty much downvote-bombed lol

And it wasn't even a terrible deal, I don't think. I don't remember if it could be considered a "hot deal," but it was at least warm enough to be decent. Either way, it didn't deserve the big gulf between upvotes and downvotes.

Maybe it was a coincidence, but it kinda felt like that thread's OP making a comment immediately after one downvote and not even having any posts from other users in their thread yet just encouraged some folks to give a random downvote, even if they originally had no intention of giving any kind of vote (especially since downvotes don't get counted towards a user profile, so it "doesn't hurt to troll the OP" or something) lol

I'll admit that I rarely, if ever, downvote a thread (I'm not even sure if I have at any point; at least, not recently). If the deal's not for me, I just move on. But I just find it really amusing to see that there may be some kind of correlation between "unearned downvotes" and the OP of a thread making a comment about why their thread got a downvote.

It doesn't seem to happen if somebody else entirely makes that comment; it kinda just does if the OP makes the comment.

Or if the OP puts something like "SUPER LAVA HOT DEAL!!1!11" in all caps in their thread title. I see those getting what could be "unearned downvotes" as well, just because of what I guess is considered as an "attention-seeking thread title." That's almost a sure-fire way to get downvotes, especially if the deal ends up being just mildly hot lol

(...whoops... man, this turned out to be a really long post just to make a quick comment about some amusing observations in RFD behaviour... sorry lol...)

I don't need this laptop, but it is a pretty decent price for the specs (hence why I came into this thread). So I'll upvote.

I've seen this too. I've noticed sometimes some OPs seem to take their posts personally, and feel they need to "defend" it from criticism or questioning. Silly behaviour, and it's not necessary - the point is to get the collective knowledge of RFDers to learn how good (or not good) a deal is. That's the value.

But on the flip side, I've also seen some users who unnecessarily rip apart a poster and go way overboard with harshness for a deal that turns out not to be so good, which ends up discouraging some people from posting in the future, which means we might miss deals in the future.

If you come across something that might be a deal and valuable to others, but not sure, post it anyway. Let the RFD collective decide lol.

I'm not even mad about the downvotes, I would appreciate the people to at least leave a comment on why it's not a good deal so others and myself would know for the future...
