499$ for brand new is not bad considering the refurb is currently going for $529$

I got my V10 from Dyson refurbished eBay for 419.99$ a couple of months ago.

IIRC it used to be 399.99$ but they might have increased their prices.

Bought one of these new when they were on sale for $399 Nov. 2020. Now it is a little over a year old and still going strong. The included Dyson power head performs acceptably on carpet and hard floors like ceramic tile, hardwood etc. Only drawback is the small size of the debris chamber, not a huge deal, you just have to empty it often. Some folks have purchased soft roller heads if they have a lot of hard floors but I have not found that necessary for my use. I can clean our 1800 square foot house on one charge. Overall, still pretty happy with it.

Is this thing powerful enough for golden retriever hair on carpet? Or would I be better of with the animal version?

If you don't mind a corded vacuum, this works so good. We use it for our Flat-coated Retriever who sheds at times. Amazing vacuum! They sell it at other stores too.
