From https://blog.firestartoys.com/lego-sets ... or-profit/

This will be the third remake of this set, but it is still a worthy LEGO set to invest in. I had the the second version of this, Lunar Lander (10029), when it first came out back in 2003. But due to reasons, I had to sell it. I regretted this badly, and was overjoyed to see a remake which was much better than the last one. I also noted how much that set had increased in value as at the time it wasn’t that popular. But its price sky-rocketed once it fell out of circulation.

Which brings me to this version. I bought this, but not for the reasons you might think. I wanted a piece of history, and the Apollo Moon Landing, is just that. I was lucky enough to be old enough to see this on BW telly and remember it well, so it’s no surprise that some investments don’t always concern money. To me, this is history!

You can still pick this up on eBay and LEGO Shop at Home. Price range is $125-$450. Oh! And FYI, 10029 goes for $289-$1800+. Not bad for a set that was originally $45 AUD!

Terrible investment, seriously

There are much better things to invest your money into if you're looking at that

Dammit, I am trying to stop buying Lego sets. I still have a few unopened sets that are future collectibles, but nothing from the space series...

Obviously some investments are better, but as far as investing in "toys", Lego is probably one of the safest ways. Even used, rare Lego sets can fetch a premium, so you can technically enjoy the build experience and resell it for the amount you paid or more.

I buy sets because of nostalgia and because I enjoy building them, but some of the bigger or discontinued sets are still in the box (original VW camper van for example). That one in particular was recently discontinued, but it is still selling for a premium if you have a BNIB version ($200+ CAD). I paid $90 for it, so if I flip it now I already more than doubled my money in under a year.

I am not advocating a Lego investment strategy obviously, but you can see some impressive returns on some sets.
