[Walmart] LG SL8YG 3.1.2 soundbar w/Atmos $451

Found this Soundbar 3.1.2 while trying to find one under $500 that does Atmos. It’s refurbished but for a soundbar id be less concerned.

Edit: This is actually a 3rd party through Walmart

FYI this package isn't a Dolby Atmos setup like the OP's, so not an apple-to-apples comparison. Also OP's is a 3rd part seller.

Soundbars with Atmos.... lol

Real upfiring speakers are not great, let alone tiny ones in a soundbar.

I'm looking for a soundbar with a subwoofer as an upgrade to just using audio on my vizio 65 inch. How does your recommendation stack up with the options below. The vizio option is 5.1 which is a plus but seems to have connectivity issues? Samsung one is 3.1 but at a decent discount.

This is a pretty good entry level Atmos soundbar, as they go (LG and Samsung are good at these compared to most others in their price range). It has average sounding 3.1.2 built in speakers with a bit of limited dynamic range (again, compared to competitors in this price range) made from 8 drivers: front left, center, right have tweeter and midrange, 2 up-firing atmos are midrange only, plus subwoofer. They blend well enough with its somewhat underpowered 5Ghz wireless sub. You can purchase a rear wireless kit (SPK8-S, S78S1-S) for this system that adds 2 rear speakers for a true 5.1.2 setup. It has Google Assistant built in and a 4k chromecast thanks to its [email protected] 4:2:0 or [email protected] 4:4:4 passthrough HDMI 2.0b IN and OUT. It supports ARC, but not eARC. It fully supports and decodes Dolby TrueHD with Atmos as well as DTS:X in addition to all the compressed standard formats (Dolby Digital 5.1, etc), It checks all the feature boxes.

Again, pretty decent entry level Atmos soundbar at a good but not great price (average $600-$700 non referb sale prices but mostly now discontinued) if you are space constrained, wire constrained or significant other constrained on a separates system.

I do question the seller, however... I have no idea how Walmart works with third-party sellers. Do they back returns like Amazon.ca does? If not, I'd be wary.

I'd avoid the Vizio as they indeed have quite bad connection issues with their rears and sub. I lean toward Samsung bars as the have better integrated drivers and sub than most other bars and while the HW-T650 above has a true center speaker that is a must in a soundbar (in my opinion), it supports compressed only formats such as Dolby Digital 5.1, etc. It doesn't decode TrueHD with Atmos or DTS:X like the LG does. It also won't support wireless rear speaker kits as far as I'm aware so you'll be limited to a decently wide front soundstage only, with no surround or overhead atmos effects (regardless of how limited these may be in a reflective setup like this, they do provide decent to good soundstage expansion).

I'd certainly trust BestBuy over a third-party seller on Walmart, however. If the lack of Atmos, no rear expansion and lack of uncompressed HD formats doesn't bother you I'd suggest going the Samsung route. Just about anything is better than a any TV's built in speakers. $300 is a pretty good price for a true 3.1 setup (center channels are the most important in a sound system, by far) and Samsung makes pretty good soundbars. That its from BestBuy makes it even better with their return policy... you can audition it at home for a week then decide to keep or not. $300 is a good deal. If the LG wasn't from a 3rd party seller, I'd recommend it but I have no idea how Walmart works with their 3rd party system and if you can return direct to Walmart or not.

I've own two of the Vizio soundbars. Paid $220 for first at $150 for second both at Costco. I like them for the prices I paid but wouldn't pay $300+. Both my sets have never lost connection to sub/rear speakers. However, they both never maintain connection with Wi-Fi, which is fine as I only use the wifi connection to go into the phone app to fine tune some settings. Decent soundbar for the price, much better than tv speakers, but nowhere near a proper amp/speaker setup. Soundbar gets far louder than you would ever want for a living room or bedroom setup.

I've tried them all. From lg's old Atmos soundbar to Samsung. But the setup of the yas108 and a real subwoofer is amazing. Best setup besides actually getting a real amp and surround setup.

Wouldn’t that combination be similar to the YAS 209 which includes the sub?

dedicated subwoof like the psw108 is much better than included subwoofers in a soundbar

Ah. I'd heard the one paired with the 209 was particularly good. The psw108 would have to be plugged in, right? If so, that wouldn't fly for my setup unfortunately.
