[Walmart] Walmart - Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic $21.88 YMMV

I went to Walmart to check out the 5L Valvoline synthetic oil for $27.XX posted on RFD a few days ago, but couldn't find any (plus, one of the WM's told me the $27 price was roll-back in late July, so the new price is $34.XX)

Anyway, long story short, I went to the Walmart Supercentre just off Grandview Hwy in B.C. and found they had Pennzoil Platinum (4.4L) for sale at $21.88 which was awesome (available weights were 5W30 and 10W30).

With taxes and environmental fees, the total was $25.00 exactly. This is a really good deal, check out the Pennzoil's rating on BITOG (bob is the oil guy). Also, CT has the exact same oil on sale for Friday (August 14th) for $27.XX which is outrageous!

I picked this up the other day. I mention something in another thread, but didn't think to start a new thread. I think that this is the normal price for a 4.4L Penzoil synthetic at WM, but they don't always have stock.

By the way, what is truly outrageous is that the 5L jug at the very same walmart is ~$36, so you're paying $14 for the extra 600 mL.

Yeah, that's really outrageous and I can't understand the logic behind the pricing. Someone could just as well buy a 4.4L jug + 1L bottle and still end up with a lower price than the 5L equivalent... Now, I'm debating if I should stock up on this for future oil changes, haha... :-0

I've seen these stocked @ the woodbridge location (highway 27, not highway 7/400), and the bradford location regularly. 5w30 and 10w30 only.

They do not carry 5w20, which is a little odd considering many imported vehicles use it, including some of the most popular cars in North America.

I used PP 5w30 in the summer and picked up some cheap Mobil 1 5w20 from the US on Rollback (22 USD) to use for the winter as I have Honda and Acura vehicles.

I hope this helps!

I didn't see any available. It actually makes sense, because WM is a bulk seller, so they probably only carry the MOST common oil weights or other brands that are "cheaper" (offer larger profit margins).

FYI: I use 5W30 in my FG2 (K20Z3 engine) and it works fine. Which Honda/Acura engines use 5W20 (just want to know)...

You can use 5w30 instead
of 5w20 in the summer but switch back to 5w20 for the winter.

The last gen fit and accord both use 5w20. Not sure about the current gens of those vehicles.

Do you honestly not understand oil weights?

the first figure, the 5w is its cold viscosity. You'd, if anything, a lower first number in the winter so that the oil is more viscose for cold weather starts. You want the second figure to be whatever the manufacture recommends, as thats the weight of the oil when the engine is at operating temp.

You can run 5w-20 or 5w-30 in all the cars that demaind 5w-20 - just check the owners manual. the 5w-20 is a lighter weight oil that provides fractionally better fuel economy (lower weight = lower friction) at the expense of protection.

I'm in Quebec... Whenever I see the 4.4L of Penzoil platinum at walmart, it is 21.88, so definitely not Western Canada only.

my local part source does not carry PP. You may be able to pm at CT if they have stock as well.

Seems CT and Part Source aren't big on Pennzoil products. But ya its been 21.88 for a while now, I use PP in both our cars (Prelude and RDX) and I love the oil. It's cheap enough I don't have to extend the oci out too long (like I did with Amsoil) and its a very good product as seen on bitog.

According to various sites on the web, Pennzoil Platinum is a better liked product versus the typical Castrol (non-german) Syntec product.
