PSA about these cheapo TVs: https://forums.redflagdeals.com/walmart ... #p32226842

The types/models of the panels inside this TV are displayed in the service menu.
If you get an RGBW you might want to consider return/exchange (unless you like it after calibration, simply because RGBW panels are effectively 3K panels with pumped up brightness and less accurate colors).
aasoror wrote: How to access service menu (MENU->1147)
With the TV on, press "menu" (then release), that should bring up the menu screen.
press "1" (then release) nothing happens
press "1" (then release) nothing happens
press "4" (then release) nothing happens
press "7" (then release) Service menu gets overlaid on top of whatever running on your TV.
** other variations reported to work: MENU->8893, MENU->0000 and SOURCE->2580
There is currently no known code to access the service menu of this TV
aasoror wrote: Any calibration settings ?
No two panels, no two rooms and no two pairs of eyes are created equal, every one needs to calibrate on his/her own, here is a basic and straight forward guide (needs to be done from service menu):
- Get "basic settings\black clipping.mp4", "basic settings\white clipping.mp4" and "Misc Patterns\A - Additional\color clipping.mp4" from MP4-2c.7z
- Disable "Dynamic Contrast" and "DLC (Dynamic Luminance Control)"
- Calibrate Brightness with "black clipping.mp4" file.
- Calibrate Contrast with "white clipping.mp4" file.
- Calibrate RGB gain with "color clipping.mp4" file.
That should get you started. If need further info here is the background related to the patterns.
Please don't share calibration settings in this thread.

I don't care about this at all, as I just plug in my Shield TV and I'm good to go...much better than any built-in one.

$50 fixes that problem.

Couldn't agree more. You're always better off getting a quality "dumb tv" and adding a MiBox, Firestick, or even a Roku stick than buying a "smart TV". Smart TVs very rarely get updates and are more prone to issues. The example I always use is modem/router combos from your ISP, you'll always get better coverage/speed by bridging the modem with your own stand-alone router, even better a mesh router.

Thoughts on this vs. other 4K 65 inch “budget” models like the TCL and Hisense ones at Costco in the < $700 range?

Literally anything vs this tv. Bad quality, but for the price it's great if you can get it

There are 9 of them in the system. I'd say pretty good chances. (it's really hard to mismanage stock for such a big item, so I expect it to be pretty accurate)
If you really want one, I'd run there now as they might be sold out pretty fast once people know about this deal.

this is an average 4k tv in all aspects. Should suffice average needs.
