[Walmart] Save $15 When You Purchase A $100 Airbnb Gift Card (Mar 17 to Mar 23, 2022), In Store Only

I posted this deal in the GC megathread last Thursday but had a suggestion today from a fellow RFDer (thanks @jcamldn) to post this in a separate thread.

Received the usual emails from Walmart and noticed this GC offer, checked their website and the current flyer but could not find the offer.

  • Retailer: Walmart
  • Gift Card(s) On Sale: Airbnb
  • Dates: Mar 17 to Mar 23, 2022
  • Deal: Save $15 When You Purchase A $100 Airbnb GC
  • Notes: In Store ONLY

From those that posted in the GC megarthread, we have 4 confirmed purchases with the discount and 1 confirmed purchase without the discount.

For those looking to purchase multiples GCs, I would recommend trying one $100 Airbnb GC to purchase and see if you get the discount. If not, ask the cashier to cancel the transaction.

For an example of what the receipt should look like, please see the photo provided by @LarryT778370 (thanks) from the GC megathread.

I hear Airbnb only allows 1 GC to be used. Is there a way to merge all of these GCs so that it could be used at once? I have a trip coming up in August and this would help, but I'm afraid of buying 50 gift cards :D

For those who purchased, what’s the expiry dates on the cards?

You heard wrong. You can buy and redeem multiple and it builds up your account credit balance. I bought 25 cards last fall and built up a balance of $1,800. I then used the $1,800 credit and combined with credit card to pay for a $2k booking.

No expiry on my cards.
If you do this you lose the credit card protection for trip cancellation, trip interruption, etc. unless you book a certain percentage of the trip costs on the credit card.

Anyone have trouble with the discount not applying at the cashier?

401 and Morningside can’t figure this out.

Showed up as 85$ in Stony plain Edmonton. But "store policy" only allowed me to buy 3 per person per day....was a pain circling around using different cards and customer service couldn't help.

Some pretty bad reviews on how airbnb does to allow to apply GC on bookings already made with outstanding payments.

https://community.withairbnb.com/t5/Hel ... d-p/570579

Can anyone confirm this to still be a issue?

I have a few booking this summer with 50% payment pending. I am worried airbnb may not let me apply these gift cards against those bookings.

Edit 1: more recent posts confirm that gift cards can be used against outstanding payments for existing bookings.

Do these cover the “ service/cleaning” fees as well or just the booking ? And did they raise any service fees at all or it’s location/landlord specific …can they also be applied towards staycation tax credit ontario ? Or air bnb inapplicable /buying them at source makes it null/void

Oh wow, this is nice PLUS you can use it as part of the Ontario (for those in ON) Staycation credit! Nice

Assume I buy 10 gift cards for $850, and then rent out an Airbnb for $1000. My out of pocket expense is only $850 but the Airbnb cost $1000.

In this case (as an individual), would I claim $1000 on my taxes for this benefit, or $850?
