[Walmart] TCL Class 4 Series 4K UHD HDR Smart Roku TV 55" & 65" - $398 & $448

Just browsing Walmart website and noticed that these TV are back on sale at pretty much the same price as BF/CM 2022 (around November of last year). I think these are better deals than the recently expired RCSS Westinghouse, Skyworth, and RCA options at similar price points. The main difference is these are 4K UHD HDR vs the OLED offering, you need to do your own research to see if these are ideal for yourself.

I did a quick StockTrack search and there are a few in the lower mainland, haven't checked anywhere else outside BC. If they're available online, they should be available in your province. Those looking to upgrade or something, this might be a viable option for now... until the next deal comes to play at the same price point. Again, I think these are better than the RCA, Skyworth, and Westinghouse offerings.

Not bad if budget is the priority. Not a fan of Roku though. Google TV is so much better IMO

Appears to be 2022 version. The 2021 variant seems to be the S446 version that runs Google TV. I also doubt that this is the S435 from 2020 that's also on Roku.

Edit: Took a look at the Walmart listing and compared the picture of the back of the TV to the RTings review, this is the S455 I'm pretty sure, which is the 2022 4-Series. The S41 listing might be because it was potentially for Black Friday but it is identical to the S455.

Back of TV from Walmart listing (only posting the link as the direct picture is a bit big for me to add to this post:

Back of the S455 from RTings review (the 2020 S435 has a different looking back):

Roku is the fastest OS IMO. All other ones have had glitches, hitches or bugs for me. Roku is the most reliable and fastest, outside of Apple TV of course.

Not so great for apps though. Closed system, like Apple but unlike Android. That's why I preferred to pick up the Android version a year ago. Of course, I could get the Roku version and hook my Shield up to it but that defeats the purpose of having an Android TV (ie. one less piece of hardware)...

Not following on TV's these days but my costco 2.5yrs old Hisens 58" (HISENS58R61G) bought for $399 is giving some problems wifi keeps disconnecting (not the problem with router as rest of the tv's working in the house)
Is this a good buy and upgraded to my current TV?

If you have a Firestick or the Chromecast with Google TV that could work. Though you'd need to take that into account I guess for the price.

I don’t recommend the 4 Series android TV at all, it’s probably the slowest android TV I’ve ever used… unbearable speed

Roku might actually be a better option for this TV

I guess it depends what you need. Most people don’t need grey-market or black-market apps. The most popular grey market app I’d argue is Plex, which is available on all main OS systems.

Last Roku I had was a 3. Free stuff like Plex and Pluto is available. Ditto with TizenOS from Samsung. Tired of getting new apps from Turkey or Asia. No one is writing for that system. There were some IPTV apps on Tizen but they don't seem to get updated so the authors have seemingly abandoned that platform. Can't say much about Roku other than that company continually tried to get me back with special deals on their latest hardware. But with a full Android ecosystem I no longer have a need for the RokuOS. I don't need grey or black market stuff either but you can't beat the Google Play Store or what you can get for Android TV. Roku is the best selling platform for people who want simple. Press a button and you are there. I'm well past that stage...

I mean this is exactly what I was meaning. If you want grey-market/black-market apps like "IPTV" apps, then sure go with an Android TV box. But for 99% of people who don't need Kodi or IPTV apps, Roku is the best OS IMO. If you want IPTV or Kodi-like apps I personally wouldn't use a built-in OS. The TVs are usually under-powered just to be acceptable to sell, and for that reason I find Roku the best since it works the best on the worst TV CPUs. But to each their own.

@mkannuri Hmm, it's not really an upgrade if you're going for the 55" or 65", it's about equivalent to both as they're 4K UHD... Basically, It really depends on the person, I would keep the TV for now until another deal comes into play. Most likely later this year by BF/CM, there will be a better deal for those who can wait. This TV is for those who can't wait or need the upgrade promptly, such as their older 32" or 40" TV is on their last legs and need an immediate replacement.

There are a few things that can cause issues, the best thing to do is actually restart your TV and router, if that doesn't fix it, try another WIFI connection such as your phone hotspot to see if it connects without issues for a while and monitor it... Last but not least, find the device on the router, instead of having it set to auto change from 2.4ghz to 5ghz, for the device having issues, if it is close to the router, set it specifically to 2.4ghz, if it's farther set it to 5ghz and not at auto.

Thank you for the suggestions and will follow and see if it gets fixed. the disconnect does not happens all the time but intermittent.
Btw..this 58" not 55 and not much of difference in size if i go for 65". hence i will hold on for 75" TV deal rather than 65"
