Can't get anything close to that for $850 CAD here. Really hot deal if not too far from US border.

I'd rather build a PC than buy anything claiming to be a "gaming laptop" but I have to say this one looks like a pretty good deal for a lower-to-middle-end gaming machine.

historical low seems to be 629 USD
EG-LP5-BK with 1660ti is 899 USD
17" model with 2060 999 USD

probably good to repaste with thermal grizzly as it sounds like these heat up good.

... gaming laptops are a real thing... I'd rather not be stuck using an immobile loud, hot, desktop computer. I haven't used a desktop in almost a decade and have been able to game the whole time.

It all depends on the graphic intensity of the games you play.

If you're going to play AAA games at Ultra settings on a laptop, that laptop would be heavy enough to be practically as immobile as a desktop except cost 5x more.

This isn't 2005. Laptops are more than capable nowadays and a lot more affordable.

with throttlestop and decent cooling, you can game on a laptop without it throttling, but it will still get "hot" during use. like within a few degrees of thermal threshhold for gpu/cpu.

I have the 17" (last years model) and have been happy with it but I hate the mouse pad.

Here is a review of last years model (build quality looks the same)

It depends on your definition of portable. The most I'm willing to carry in my backpack is 3.5 LB. The best gaming laptop you can get under this weight is the Razer Blade Stealth 2019 with the nVidia 1650GTX.

It costs $2400 and can only game at mid settings. At that price you could get a desktop with a nVidia 2080 RTX easy.

Sure you can get spend around 1800$ to get an 2060RTX 17" laptop, but you double the weight to almost 6LB.

Sleek and refined or Dumb Brute Hulking beast, but you can't have both even if you have the $$$.

I bought a laptop with the same specs awhile ago, I returned it because honestly the 1650 struggles a lot . Maybe like fortnite, League or Csgo it's not bad but it can barely run some newer titles. 1650ti seems to be a good middle ground. But if you play mostly eSports stuff like the above mentioned games the 144hz screen will rock your world and this deal will be pretty hot for you.
