Some serious heat here.

Kamado Joe's assembled may be a challenge for some to transport.

$498 is a no brainer for a Kamado Joe.

Wow 499 for a kamado joe. I really don't need one but I'd have a very tough time turning that down.

I bought the Austin XL in last year's WM clearance. Overall pretty happy, but a few things could have been better, particularly for the regular price:
(1) the drip tray is a questionable design - the slide is useless unless it's perfectly clean
(2) the lack of a diffuser over the fire pot makes for uneven heating
(3) the hopper has a limited slope, and you constantly need to push the pellets over the auger - a lack of a funnel shape at the bottom is a huge miss that means you need to check on it frequently unless you fill it to the brim
(4) there is no front shelf, which are super convenient
(5) at full pop wifi connectivity and maybe even a PID controller would have been needed to make it stand out

On the other hand, the overall build quality is good, the controller does a good job maintaining the temp steady. At the clearance price is a smokin' deal (haha, very punny) Face With Tears Of Joy

If you want a smoker with a ton of space which can also be used as an oven/grill austin xl is the one, other one is just pure smoker

I believe that the verticals can give you more "smokey" flavour and can hold a lot of food on multiple levels, but you can be limited in the size (length) of the meat you throw on. I usually buy full packer briskets, and I don't think that will fit in the vertical in one piece. On the other hand, it may be better to cut the plain flat from the side that has the point to better optimize cooking times.
