[NCIX] NCIX - D-Link DNS-323 NAS $139.99 FREE SHIPPING

NCIX has a deal on the DNS-323 for $139.99 with free express shipping (in Canada). Might be wise to get it before HST kicks in too.

This is "ok" if you missed out on the extremely good price on the DNS-321 available at Dell on Day 5 of Days of Deals which was a excellent price of $89.99. Or if you got screwed by Dell, where you ordered it 45 mins into the deal offer when it still said in-stock, only to have the order cancelled on you cuz they actually ran out of stock like me.

AFAIK, the only real difference between the 321 and the 323 is a USB Printer port on the 323.. and the 321 is no longer offered for sale @ Dell and possibly no longer manufactured?

The DNS-321 does support P2P torrent downloading via a plugin since Firmware 1.03. The plugin is located here:

http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=DNS-321

click "Support Resources" then "Additional Downloads"

The only difference that I can see between the 321 and the 323 is that the 323 supports a usb printer.

Benchmarks also show the 321 to have slower transfer speeds, for those who care :)

323 is worth it IMO.

4-bay NAS is nice and I want one as well, but for 3x the price I'd pass :P

until prices come down on the 4 bay ones, it'd be way cheaper buying 2 - 2bay ones.

I was lucky enough to pick one up from dell @ 89.99 a few days back..that was a hot hot deal! I like this unit a lot better than my old Linksys NAS200, I highly recommend it.

For those who own this already, have you tried to play 1080p files wirelessly?

What's the difference between this and 321? Is it worth the price difference?

I have a 321 which I bought in March and only used it for a month. If anybody is interested, please PM me.

Thanks.

P.S. I did streaming 1080p movie and it works fine. The streaming rate is about 19mbps.

That was the DNS-321, this is for the 323. It was a good deal for sure but they aren't the same unit. For the $50 price difference though, a little bit slower is no big deal for me.

At those prices why not build yourself a cheap system with multiple drive bays and turn that into a NAS?

I think even the DNS-321 can stream 1080p, I do a copy to DNS-321 and got 14.6 MBps (byte not bits) from PC with Gig-E port. Most media players have only Fast Ethernet port that max out at 12.5 MBps (theoretical max of 100Mbps/8) . The bottleneck would be with the wireless network.

So far even my Trendnet TPL-302E powerline Ethernet choked with 1080p files, but end-to-end wired Fast Ethernet network is fine, even when going through a gig switch (Dlink 1008D) and a Linksys router (WRT54GL).

Two reasons: space constraints (incl. peripherals), power consumption

Perhaps Dell ran out of stock? I've been using it for almost a week.

the 321 was released after the 323 so I doubt they'd kill it before the 323.

I ordered it and got a back order with shipping estimate of july 08. The best deal was memory express had the dns 323 for 99.99.

Wow, I was a lucky bastard! My 321 blew the PS at the 2nd power on. After a little run-around at Dell, I end up with a CS located in India I think who promise to send me a new one and the instructions to send back the defective. After 2 days, I receive another new 321!
After a week, I had to call again about the instructions to send my defective one still in my possession.
And they did not charge my cc me twice.

I have both 321 and 323 holding avi mainly. There has been no problems except for win7 who sometimes loses them.

I converted a DIY basic Atom system into a WinServer which is limited to two drives because the M/B only has two connections. It was super easy to install Win Server and is recognized by Patriot and Kodak.
