Wash sale for selling/buying stocks listed in two markets

For example, Alibaba is listed in both US and Hong Kong.
If I sell Alibaba stocks at loss in US market, can I immediately buy its stock at HK market and not violate wash sale?

Thanks.

"...buys another one that is substantially similar."

It is the same thing except in different currency = wash sale.

Are you a Canadian tax resident? There is no wash sale rule in Canada, that's a US thing. There is a superficial loss rule, which is more or less the same. And yes, your example would be a superficial loss.
