Washer/Dryer Help - What to Buy?

Wife and I are looking for a new top load Washer/Dryer set but it seems that reviews are split and everything is either amazing, or the worst unit ever made on any HE washer/dryer set.

We have an old front load that gets clothes clean but it is way to small for our growing family and we hate the mold, wife is dead set against a front load washer.

This set seems decent (Whirlpool) but all Youtube reviews and threads I can find are filled with people stating they fill with very little water, clothes come out with dry spots....etc

This seems to apply for every HE washer no matter the brand. Do all the new washers just suck or do people expect too much?

Any suggestions on what to look for or avoid?

Thanks!

+1 Samsung and Kenwood are the worst, have owned for 5 years and have had countless number of problems. Samsung is a jack of all trades master of none in my opinion. I use wirecutter for reviews as they go in depth. They recommend LG dryer and washer combos. Have heard good things. Whirlpool and Maytag is always a good go to as well.

LG & Samsung have lots of cool features on their appliances
ALWAYS Something NEW

BUT ... the downfall is cause of that their stuff has a lot of bugs that never get worked out
(same way things go when cars change model design ... but car design usually stays around for awhile ... so the kinks get worked out eventually ... and most Consumers just make a note not to buy the first year of a major redesign)

Not so with Samsung & LG

They change things up every.single.year

So things don’t stabilize much at all

This results in more defective parts, recalls etc
And expensive repairs if you can get them done at all
(Be that knowledgeable service peeps, or just a lack of replacement parts ... as these 2 companies just decide to make stuff obsolete)

End result, a lot of early on happy Customers with all the bells & whistles
End up 3 to 5 years down the road being annoyed
More so if they end up having to replace a major appliance at that mark
(Industry standard says Appliances should last in average 7 or more years)

This is where buying from someone else really matters
Do your research (ie GOOGLE or Consumer Reports for Model #s you are considering)

Personally we’ve had mostly well known NA Brand Names over the decades for all our Major Appliances
And they have stood up EXTREMELY WELL
Be it Frigidaire, Hotpoint, Whirlpool, Inglis, Maytag etc

Our current Washer & Dryer set is over 10 years old
Runs at least 1 load a day (be it small delicates or big heavy duty)
It’s a Maytag, and a workhorse
No complaints... no issues
It’s a top loader HE, stainless steel drums

Extremely happy with a top loader HE
All the benefits of HE without all the associated problems of front loaders
And none of the drainage, smell, vibration issues
And the added flexibility of being to do “almost commercial size loads”
And have more control over the water levels (able to add more if needed etc)

Would buy another such set in a millisecond

IMO, top loaders are generally more robust than front loaders by a large margin. Personally, I've had good experiences with GE units.

Stick to the basics, don't fall for the new gimmicks.

Analog controls.

Thanks for the information, that top load HE Whirlpool is looking pretty good!

I didn't associate Home & Garden with Appliances at all Shopping Discussion made the most sense to me, my bad and it has been moved :)
