Water Heater time to change . Buy/Rent /Brand

Water heater rental with reliance changed in 2008 60 gallon powervented . Should I go with reliance rental ,will they change after this much time.
Should I buy instead if so which brand and from where ..? How costly is it to get old removed and new one installed ?

If you read 100's of reviews on RFD , you will know that owning the tank is no brainer. SInce your tank was installed prior to 2010, I highly doubt that you are under any contract.
You should be able to have Reliance pick their tank without penalty but please call and confirm.
GSW and Rheem both are good brand and available at Lowes. Tank should cost you around 1000-1200 and labor totally depends on area you live in ( ball park in GTA is 300-500 depends upon several factors)

Thanks NB,did check with homedepot and Lowe’s ,Lowe’s had OJ brand no Rheem or GSW,installation was 350 range .
How to deal with Reliance ,though rep told me no contract and quoted diffrent options ranging fro 125 to no charge if I drop off at depot ,but they want to send technician first to see what’s wrong with my unit . There are no leaks but age of it bothers me and also when hot water comes out get a diffrent smell ,water is not that hot ,have to crank heat to high setting on tap to get hot water .

I have a Gemco conventional gas water heater. Base model with 7 year warranty, 18 years old now, cost $350 in 2002, and required no servicing besides annual sediment check by myself. I’m going to install a new anti-corrosion rod to try for a few more years life. I got this tank from Rona, they still have very similar heaters and if I need a replacement I’m probably going to get this brand again, but maybe bigger size.

Buy the water heater. Way cheaper than renting. I had to drop it off to their depot with pre authorization (Enbridge) . Most water heaters have a 7-10 year warranty. So if you pay $1200 for a water heater installed, you have paid for it in 4 years at $10/month. Most rentals will have a contract of 7-10 years at $20/month.
