WB announced new LOTR movie(s) in development

On a Thursday earnings call, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav announced that newly-installed studio leaders Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy have brokered a deal to make “multiple” films based on the beloved J. R. R. Tolkien books. The projects will be developed through WB label New Line Cinema.

I dunno...

I loved LOTR... bought the original DVDs, then the BluRay, and then the Extended BR. I however hated the Hobbit, as I felt they dragged it into a trilogy when they could have easily done it in two (if not one) film. With WB track record, I'd feel like they'd try to milk this to the point of ruining what made the original trilogy to great.

I guess the question would be, what are the movies going to be based on? Is there much material left the rings of power and the existing movies aren't covering? Are they planning to remake the trilogy, which seems odd, because the original trilogy holds up pretty well. CGI (with a big budget) was already decent when the LOTR movies got made.
