Weekly Grocery Deals Thread – August 1st – August 7th [ON/East]

Deal Link:
Expiry:
August 7, 2019
Hi everyone,

I remember a year or so ago there being a thread for weekly grocery deals and since I didn't see any pop up, I decided to start one last week. Feedback has been positive so here’s the second week’s lineup! Please share any suggestions for deals that I've missed. Here's this week’s lineup of deals:

And for those of you in the west, I’m looking forward towards posting the thread later this week. If anyone could quickly PM me with the basics (e.g. when flyer cycles start, what stores are reputable; price match policies with large grocers, which regions have different flyer cycles) that would really help a lot.

Produce – Fruits

[Food Basics]: Organic Strawberries/[Non-Organic] Strawberries, $1.88 for 1 lb
[No Frills]: Cantaloupes, $1.50/ea
[No Frills]: Corn, $0.14/ea
[No Frills]: Yellow Plums, $2.97/1.5L Clamshell
[Real Canadian Superstore]: Whole Seedless Watermelon, $3.98/11 lb average

Produce - Vegetables

[FreshCo]: Seedless Cucumbers, $0.65/ea
[FreshCo]: Field Tomatoes, $0.65/lb
[FreshCo]: Iceberg Lettuce, $0.65/lb
[No Frills]: Carrots, $1/2 lb package
[No Frills]: Green Onions, $1/2 bundles
[Food Basics]: Cauliflower, $1.67/ea

Dairy/Eggs

[FreshCo]: Black Diamond Cheese Bars, $3.75/400-450g
[FreshCo]: Chapman’s Ice Cream, 2L, Canadian Collections 6 – 8 pk, Lolly 28pk, $2
[Metro]: Oka Cheese ($10.18/lb), Chevalier Brie Triple Cream ($9.73/lb), 50% OFF
[Food Basics]: Selection Brand Eggs, $2.87/18 ct
[Metro]: Lactania Butter, $2.99/454g/1 lb

Meat

[No Frills]: Back Ribs, $3/lb
[No Frills]: Boneless Pork Half Loin (Rib/Sirloin), $2/lb
[FreshCo]: Fresh Skinless Chicken Breasts, $3/lb
[Real Canadian Superstore]: Skinless, Boneless Chicken Breasts, $3.44/lb Club Pack
[Walmart]: Beef Rib Grilling Steak [AAA Angus], $6.77/lb
[T&T Supermarket]: Fresh "A Grade" Pork Side Ribs, $1.99/lb (Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon)
[T&T Supermarket]: Fresh "A Grade" Chicken Drumsticks, $0.99/lb (all week)

Grains (Bread, Pasta etc…)

[Giant Tiger]: Post Cereal, $1.99/selected sizes
[Real Canadian Superstore]: D’Italiano bread or buns, $2/ea
[Walmart]: Villagio Bread, $1.97/ea

Drinks & Desserts

[No Frills]: Real Canadian Bottled Spring Water, $1.50/24 ct
[No Frills]: Breyers Classic Frozen Desserts, 1.66L, Popsicle Novelties 6 – 12 ct, $2
[Real Canadian Superstore]: Coke, Sprite, Nestea, $6.48/20 - 24 ct
[Walmart]: Pepsi/Crush, $6.47/24 ct

Comments for this week:
  • For all No Frills deals that involve multiple purchases, you’ll see under the big yellow circle that there is a per unit price, which is the same as the sale price but in units. You can price match the unit price and don’t need to buy two or 7 of the same products. In fact, the same goes for in store purchases.
  • I also want to apologize if the formatting is a bit off (bolds, italics, underlines). I’ve been trying to keep the formatting universal for all the lines (bold product names/prices, underlined sections) but when I copy + paste it only registers plaintext so I have to start over with RFD formatting.

I assume the [FreshCo]: Fresh Skinless Chicken Breasts, $3/lb is bone in? Anyone know for sure?

The grocery flyers are most likely specific to regions and not usually province wide. For example, Ottawa often has different sales than the GTA/Southern Ontario and Northern Ontario is also different too.

Is this thread meant to list only the lowest prices for each item?

I notice that Giant Tiger has the Beatrice fruit bottom yogourt 175g in 4 different flavours for 2/$1 unadvertised for months, maybe it's their ongoing price. Other stores, if they carry the brand like Superstores used to, sell them for 6/$4 and with only a single flavour or two.

I'd assume the same thing, bone in. If they are boneless it would definitely say so, like RCSS for $3.44/lb in a club pack.

Suggest we start using abbreviations in this thread so it's less typing out the store names like other RFD threads: RCSS for Real Canadian Superstore, FB for Food Basics, NF for No Frills, GT for Giant Tiger, WM for Walmart, etc. Smiling Face With Open Mouth And Smiling Eyes

Great idea! I can work with that for my next post and provide a mini-legend at the bottom.

This "community" thread (I add suggestions to the OP on a daily basis) is meant to list the best grocery deals this week. For example, even though cantaloupes were just $0.97 two weeks ago I'm still adding the $1.50 price this week to the thread.

Last week's thread might help out a bit with your question: weekly-grocery-deals-thread-july-25th-3 ... t-2301766/

I also want to add that if the same product is cheaper at another store (e.g. corn for $0.14 at No Frills as opposed to $0.15 at Food Basics) I might only add the No Frills one to avoid cluttering the thread. I know many of you might have a Food Basics closer to you or not a No Frills in your area, so I would always recommend doing a search on the Flipp app. Smiling Face With Open Mouth

In regards to the post cereal at giant tiger.. if you download the giant tiger app and sign up for the VIP there's a coupon for $1.00 off of honey bunches of oats or shreddies... Can't tell if it's just one per time use or not... Hope it isn't gonna confirm tomorow...

Hopefully $.99 a box !

A note to add... The Organic/Regular Strawberries are advertised in my old local (L1T2E7) for $1.67. Not much cheaper but good for price matching. Also I've noticed most of the time, RCSS had Driscolls Organic which you can complete the surveys for to get up to $0.75 coupons which would really bring that price down!

I remember there being a $1.50 off coupon on Smartsource a while back for two selected varieties...

Thanks, added to OP! I just want to point out that it's probably the location specific thing with Food Basics again...

Sadly for those who haven't been doing the surveys, you'll need to work your way up to the $0.75 coupons. I believe it is after something like 25 surveys completed.
