[Well.ca] CA-N95 flat fold mask (adult and kids) made in Canada 10pcs for $11

Canadamasq (Ontario government official ASTM masks supplier) made in Canada CA-N95 (non-NIOSH N95) flat fold mask (adult and kid sizes 3 colors) on sale 10pcs for $11

Some school boards have extended the mandatory mask requirements until end of the months

See thread summary for explanation of US certified NIOSH N95 and the still new (still developing but Rome wasn't built in a day) Canadian national standard for FFRs (CSA Z94.4.1).

Are these really licensed N95s? N95 and ear loop does not compute.

They are far superior to other masks, and they can form a seal. If you need NIOSH N95 for a high risk environment, thèse won't do, but they are probably the next best thing.

Just to be clear, Canadamasq makes good masks, but they have nothing to do with N95. Because there is no domestic earloop mask standard for them to use in the marketing materials, they just put N95 in the name to trick people. Same as China did with the KN95 standard, by the way, which also has nothing to do with N95.

For adults, I recommend the medium size for most faces.

I received packages marked Large, Medium, and Regular for adults size, and XM, Small, and Children for kid size. Seems to be random.

I think the more obvious difference is the material. The blue is stiffer, the white material is softer and somewhat thinner.

The elastic straps do a really good job of holding a seal. Earloop masks can’t do the same

Edit: not a criticism of well fitting non N95 masks which are amazing for most environments. But this just shows you why there’s a different standard (which also requires fit testing and shaved facial hair or a style that is entirely within the mask)

I have other head band 3M N95 flat fold masks and sometimes the bands are too tight. For these earloop flat fold (fish style) masks, I simply use a velcro strap on the earloop and it goes across the back of my head. It's tighter and I prefer that.

There are more respirators available in Canada other than NIOSH N95 (US) and KN95 (China).
mask standard.jpg

As you can see this chart above from Government of Canada, instead of relying on other countries to certify respirators for Canadian, posing a huge delay, the Canadian government is rolling out the Canadian National Standard CA-N95 and CA-N99 for respirators natively certified by CSA (Canadian Standards Association that certifies the hockey helmets in Canada).

The Canadian certification is still at its infancy stage, and at this time sounds more like recognizing manufactures who conform to their guideline and assessment, so if you need a US certified NIOSH N95 masks for your environment, surely go for them. However, I think we should give a chance to support and develop local solution if you just need something with more protection than a surgical mask.

You can find more about the US NIOSH and the new CAN Z94.4.1 standard in the link below.

Expect the price of N-95 to fall through the floor over the next month as measures are being rolled back worldwide and over-production laggs to catch up. It is going to follow the same pattern hand sanitizer followed, where you literally could not give it away.

It kinda does tho.
N95 isn't a trade mark or anything, it's just a rating system. literally means Non Oil resistance, >= 95% filter performance.

For example, Mexican standard actually have the same names as US/NIOSH (like N95/99/100 and so on), but not necessarily follows NIOSH-42CFR84 requirements or is tested by Niosh .
